Has your wife ever driven your car?

:lol: Not only does she drive them, she keeps track of whose Turn It Is to drive! I gotta admit that she take the 100-6 through its gears pretty darn smooth.

My Dad told me when I was 15 that I had to learn to drive a standard because it may be the only transportation available in an emergency. [...] That might be enough to get your wife interested in learning.

Her answer to that is that she has a cell phone!

I'm still motivated to try and teach her. I think it is a skill that everyone should have, at least at a basic level.

Monica, it's nice to know that hubby and I are not in the minority and we do have company. I, like you, have a few male friends that are not at all shy about doing a rally or run with me. Husband has no problem with this. When we feel the need to be together for a fun car event, we take Onslow and he usually navigates and surprisingly we don't do all that badly. A few harsh words or two haven't devestated our 30 year marriage. As an F/Y/I, he's a pilot and used to being into control so my being the PIC (pilot in control) can be problematical. He, almost naturally, is a great navigator once he gets used to my "Is that a left or a right?" He has a really great '48 Dodge 1/2 ton pick-up that we are now seriously considering restoring so that in one of our clubs he can take Mr. Dodge to the various events. It runs well but doesn't look all that spiffy. One car at a time...

My girl doesn't drive the Spit.

She never learned how to drive a stick and said she has no need to learn.

I have offered to teach her, but to no avail.

I'm a very lucky man!! My wife (#2) drives any and all of the vehicles in our stable. She loves the little sporty cars as well as the Street Rod. The 67 Cooper S restoration is her car and she's anxious to get it done so she can out drive the local boys through the turns.

Now she's starting to talk about taking the race car to driver's school and joining in the ranks there. I of course fully encourage this!

My wife bought our car new in 74 and put the first 45,000 or more miles on it. As of late, she isn't too keen about driving it because she feels that it is too fast now, compared to what she remembers, so I do the bulk of the driving.

If you can consider 1,800 miles in almost three years a lot of driving.

About the only thing my wife drives is me...crazy!!!!...She has NEVER driven the Bugeye (MY car!) (she's AFRAID of it! Thankfully!!)

I can't work on my LBC without my 3yo daughter right by my side. She wont allow it! HAHA! But when working on my Honda, she wants to go ride her bike.

My wife, on the other hand, seems to not give a hoot about my little car... although she does seem to buy me lots of new shiny parts for it all the time. She's not once driven it, nor wants to. Shes only sat in the drivers seat once, and that was to push the clutch in when I was checking my thrust washers (which I had to drag her away from her new Book to do so). She does know how to drive a manual... and I have to admit this, because if she reads this and I didn't I might be making the couch warm later... Shes faster than me in a straight line drag race.

My Wife has driven our TR6,but I think that
she feels like I'm a little "protective" of it.
Our Daughter loves to drive it (if she has the chance).

My wife drove the herald once, to move it to a different parking space. The door wouldn't open and a neighbor had to rescue her (one of the many "issues" with the car when I bought it) For some reason she still holds this against the car and refuses to drive it.

She is very good with a manual transmission. Both of our normal cars are stick shift.

Not only does my wife drive my car, she now has a Spitfire of her own. Years ago when we were aurocrossing the Opel Manta, she often had the top time on index and actual time in class. Furthermore, she and friend Marie did most of the electrical work on her Spitfire. The only little problem is while it is her car, it is my responsibility. Oh yes, it was her idea to get the high compression pistons and European manifold and SUs for her car.

Yes. It was part of an Evil Master Plan. I knew she'd dislike the BE's low torque 1380cc motor. The modified suspension is
rough. The straight cut, close ratio gear box is noisy. At the
time it had a 3.7 diff.
She stalled the sucker twice on her maiden drive. It lurched horribly coming up our steep drive. She almost stuffed the sucker in first gear at 50+ m.p.h.! My quick left hand saved
the gearbox.
That was enough to convince her she didn't like driving the BE.
I then bought her a nice stock MGB. She loves the MGB.
Now with her LBC needs taken care of and my BE safe from her
hands on the wheel...in went the 4.2 diff.

...No, the Healey Chevy is kind of a beast and the comp clutch really tough, even my foot cramps up in traffic and the seat is bolted to the floor all the way back and then some.

Anyway she /we got a new Mini a few months ago, so she now has her own LBC ....now that is a fun car!!
