Randall - I tried the next spline over but it was still tight because now it was too far the other way.
Interesting. So the replacement joints have the splines clocked differently.<div class="ubbcode-block"><div class="ubbcode-header">Quote:] So I tried to center it as best I could [/QUOTE]Certainly the right way to do it, put the ball joint level and hold there while you tighten the nut. Come to think of it, that's probably what I did without ever noticing if the splines matched or not. But I only changed those joints once in over 200,000 miles, they don't seem to wear much since there is so little force on them. And the boots can be replaced separately.

Hi Martx_5. Thanks for the info about Macy's and the stator tube. I didn't know any were available. The tube from online metals was $14 plus that much for shipping. I reused the old anti rattles with chisel ticks to hold in place as original and cut the slot with a metal delta grinding disc on a table saw. New wiring harness since bare wires caused a melt down. Just put it all back together after cleaning and lubing control head (that was tricky). Road tests as new!
