Hand held transceiver (walkie talkie)

Elliot - if you're planning to use the system in South Africa, why not just have your friends there get a set for you?
Because the max transceiver power for unlicensed walkie talkies in SA is 1/2 watt from what I can gather. I would rather get something with a little more power.

That is probably where you run the risk of having them confiscated.

Surely I can order on Amazon or Takealot (SA equivalent to Amazon) but the radios would conform to the SA standards. 1/2 watt (unlicensed) is for the Boy Scouts
Indeed - However, the nice? thing about Amazon is that they don't care.

Here is a pair

5 watt

17 USD

Thanks JP! There are some issues with this model and the seller but I will look for other models on Amazon.za.
This particular model requires a special to Baofeng cable in order to program using CHIRP, I intend to buy one to use right out of the box.
Also, if it's sold in SA the charger is probably 230v which would render it unable to charge when I get back home.
The seller only has a 41% rating and for me I wouldn't buy from a seller with a low rating like that.
But, I do intend to look for other models that I can purchase. Thanks!
