Had a chat with a Trooper this morning.

I came flying down the hill westbound on I-90 near Preston and saw him at the bottom of the hill sitting there with all his lights turned off.

I started slowing down, but was too late.

He clocked me at 87mph.
Well, at least I know I was probably doing 90+ before he got me. Before this I hadn't had a speeding ticket in over twenty years - oh, it just came to me that was back when I drove my MGC. Hmmm... might be a correlation there.

90+ in your Midget? I'm not worthy...

Heh... Mine does run pretty darn good.
I tuned it a little this weekend, heck I was done renewing the brake cylinders and still wanted to tinker. I took out the plugs and noted they were gapped from about .042 up to .048 - so I set them all to .032 and it ran. Then I remembered that since I have a Nissan A15 with electronic dizzy the gap would likely not be the same as for the stock engine. Looked up the gap & reset them all to .040 and since I noticed they all looked kind of white I richened up the carb a little too.

So, with good brakes and nicely running motor it wanted to get out and stretch a little this morning on the way to work.
Unfortunately we got caught. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/frown.gif

WOW! He should have shaken your hand- not just give you a ticket!

I've had to hit the brakes more than a couple of times in that area.

Why shucks, everyone knows LBCs can't go that fast.

Yes, I think you have a defence there........ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Not often that I would ever congratulate anyone on getting a speeding ticket. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/laugh.gif

I really really need to connect my speedometer. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

On the local four way highway the PA Troopers decided to do a flying speed trap. The helicopter clocked the cars on the spped trap and troopers down the road simply waved them over. 87 cars in 2 hours. The drivers were [censored] that they had a 15 to 20 minute wait to GET their tickets. My co worker got caught in the trap. She was hit at 81 MPH in a 55 (in a Tiberon) and tail gating. The trooper asked her about the tail gating and she could only say "imaging how fast i would have been going it he would have got out of my way".

Total cost for her... $281.57 and 3 points

You know, he was smiling a lot. I wondered about that since he gave me such a break on the speed, he wasn't smiling because he got me or he would have hit me with a much steeper fine. Maybe he just thought it was funny, this big guy in such a small car going like a bat outta he|| - /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/wink.gif

Respect to Rick, we are not worthy!
I got nabbed when I was 16 in the old Buick stationwagon, I found it mosty amusing whem he asked if I knew how fast i was going, I didn't: the speedo only went to 85!!! Apparently I was doing 103, which I doubted as the car was on its last legs, and he eventually wrote me down for 61 in a 55...
So when you gonna break the 100mph barrier then Rick?

OK I'll be the first.... slow down Rick. Keep it safe. I've been guilty of excessive speeds from time to time, but after having a moment to think about it I always regret what I've done and thank the Lord that nobody got hurt.

This is one of many reasons I'm converting to negative ground...so I can hook up a Valentine1!!

I have had one of these in my BMW M3 for almost 6 years...no tickets, but dozens of police snuffed out of their hiding places. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif

Trevor, I totally agree with you.
Actually I wasn't trying to break the sound barrier or anything, I was just driving. Listening to some music, going to work.

Picture a 2.5 mile hill almost completely straight from top to bottom. On an Interstate Freeway. In the dark. Without many cars around you. Not quite steep enough to put it in neutral and coast without slowing down gradually.

Sounds like the perfect spot for a Trooper to sit, right down there in the bottom doesn't it?

My problem is that Frank just drives so smoothly. If he was a bit scarier, had some wobble or shimmy or something then it would not be so easy to drive too fast. Believe me I'll be thinking about it, especially when I pay the ticket!

AWWW, Rick - I've been down that mountain...you had gravity on your side...hehehe

Seriously, I'd frame that ticket!

I'll scan it, but they make you mail it in with payment.
Seems like a guy should get a copy to keep doesn't it?

Drive em like you stole em.

Here's the part of the scanned ticket with the interesting bit:

Only $93! That's cheap thrills!

I have the option of sending it in with an "explanation".
They have the option of reducing the fine or telling me to pay in full. This process takes 4 to 6 weeks.
