Now.
It has been a LONG time since I did one of these.
I have dug up drawings.
He can move the shaft 7.5" out of the column.
Obviously, the lock is not engaging the shaft collar, nor is there a "ring" that is holding it in place at the ignition lock area.
That is what the lock bolt at the bottom of the column is for.
The drawing I have seems to reference that the lock plate on the shaft is large diameter, maybe twice what the actual shaft is.
Thge OD of the shaft proper is roughly the ID of the bushings in the ends of the column.
Right?
So, how is this big lock collar supposed to fit THROUGH those bushings?
My old memory is you run the shaft one way as far as you can, compress the ears on the now fully exposed bushing, and remove the exposed bushing, and the shaft should come out, with the lock ring collar and the trafficator cancelling cams still attached.
No?
And, you remove the key, the pin is now fully locked into the collar locking ring, true?
Like I said, it's been at least 20 years.
This is good therapy so humour me.
Being able to shake those grey cells up a bit is a good thing.
