We all remember my episode at the post office before Christmas when Emma 'died' and I sat for a very long time dead in the water.

Fast forward, insert new carburetors.

Yesterday was our car club holiday party. On the way home, I forgot to get off at the last MO exit and get gas (15c a gallon cheaper in MO than in IL) Got two houses from mine, Emma dies. DH gets all p!ssy, insisting I ran out of gas. I knew I had enough gas, it wsan't that. This morning, he gets a couple gallons, dumps it in Emma, wallah, she starts. I get, "I told you that you were out of gas, but I don't know anything."

So today, I stick $10 in the tank, take Emma to the market. Chuck works 4-10 today. 3 blocks from my house, with a Bful of groceries, she dies again. I sat 45 minutes. NORMALLY she starts after awhile. I finally called a guy a couple blocks away that's in our car club. No answer. Cop stops, "Car trouble?" "Nah, just a nice day to sit and look."

Might add, fuel pump was making that funny noise again. Ticking but also almost like a bubbly, popcorn-popping sound. Anyway, Gary (guy from the car club) drives by and stops. Says, "It's either fire or fuel." So I open the hood (which I hadn't done before since I know nothing about the new SUs or really what to even look for/at)

That little pressure cap thingy that you set? It was on 1. Gary moved it to 4 1/2, she started right up. Weird thing is I KNOW it was on 4 or 4 1/2 before, because I asked Chuck what it was. It's spring-loaded, locks into place, it couldn't have 'moved' on its own, right?

So NOW WHAT? A fluke? Or is the fuel pump still suspect?

On the bright side, I get to remind DH that I KNEW I wasn't out of gas.

I ran out of gas on the way to work yesterday. Bad thing is I only live 1 mile from work.

Why is it again that you have a fuel pressure regulator? I'm pretty darned sure that's not stock on any MGB.

Here we go again. Whoot!

READ THRU the posts about those things... We had a discussion about 'em "Spontaneously" changing settings on their own. Duct tape THAT one, and find the Holley unit to replace it.... I *know* it was posted.

It's thing thingy on my SUs. Don't ask me why it's on there, came back with Emma after Chuck and John installed the SUs Tuesday. Hang 5 and I'll take a picture of the thingy I'm talking about.

The round thingy in the middle of those 2 hoses. ((pay no attention to the dismally dirty engine bay))

Say after me: "Pressure Regulator."

Thanks Jeff, that spared me a cold chicken dinner.... I owe ya! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Yup, that's what it is, you win the prize Doc. I KNEW that. I just prefer to say 'thingie' whenever I can.

The 'round thingy" - a pressure regulator - is actually a DPO modification...Janel, have you become your own DPO? Instead of that band aid, why not fix the problem?

I didn't do any of this Tony. The MEN did this, Chuck and John. If I knew what the farking problem was, I'd fix it.

You can do it one of two ways: Get the Holley regulator, or ELIMINATE the regulator with a new SU fuel pump... I'd say go for the Holley regulator... but who'm I, right?

Now that you have new carbs, set up properly &, (I'm assuming) a new fuel filter...the problem is you don't have the proper fuel pump - or its not operating properly...so, why doesn't the mechanic change it out or rebuild it?

I asked him that in December when I was stranded for 30+ minutes in 20 degree weather. Someone INSISTS the fuel pump is operating perfectly.

And the bloody car NEVER does this when he's driving or in it. Other than last night, and he swore I'd run out of gas.

Yes I have a new fuel filter.

What sort of fuel pump do I buy? I'll change the d@mned thing myself.

DEEP BREATHLY jaybird. An SU pump... but the Holley regulator in place of the "round thingie" will work jus' fine as well: it'll cost less, be readily available (local parts monkey) and take less time/effort to swap... but again: who'm I?

Then I'm still my own DPO...

Why is there a pressure regulator in there anyway? Neither of my cars have one, and both have HS4's. The GT has an aftermarket pump, a square one, as well.
Is it because she switched from her ZS?

When you get it installed (the SU fuel pump), take the round thingy and chuck in the nearest trash bin - it's not needed, and always has been a DPO thing on every car I've ever seen one on.

Obviously "THE MEN" thought it was necessary, I thought it was part of the SU set up.
