Hello,

I have recently inherited a 1967 Austin Healey 3000 from my father in-law. While no stranger to tinkering with cars, my previous tastes have been more towards American muscle cars and big V8 iron, so I am a bit of a stranger in a strange land here. Carburetors? OK. Those I can do. Dash pots??? And you don't smoke them? OK, I'll learn. Earth positive? Isn't that some kind of Greenpeace splinter group? No? Oh boy...

So I'll do my best with search functions and research, but please go easy on me if I start in on some really silly questions. To my knowledge the car is in OK shape mechanically, but needs a thorough cosmetic restoration. I'll know more later this month when I make the trek to the east coast to retrieve the car and get her up on the lift and see what we have. Until then I think I'll go purchase some manuals and restoration guides and start the learning process.

Thanks for having me!

Mike

Welcome to the forum! I like your sense of humour, and sad to say, you need one of those when you own a Little British Car.

You have a really nice example of the breed there, you are a lucky man! Any questions you may have, please ask away, silly or not. You will always be answered with courtesy. That's what we're all about here.

And by the way, you're gonna LOVE that Healey!!!

Welcome to the Forum. The first time you drive that Healey with the top down on a cool spring evening you'll be hooked for life!

My money says he is already!

Even Tim the Toolman was won over by a big Healey that his wife Jill bought on one of the episodes.

Welcome, Mike!

It is funny you mention Tim the Tool Man. Besides my '67 Camaro, I also have a V8 Mazda Miata, which tends to lend itself to jokes about adding "more power" to things. In comparing vehicles, my father in-law and I have joked about that very Home Improvement episode. The phrase, "but... but.. it's BRITISH!" has been uttered more than once.

I guess all those Lucas Prince of Darkness jokes are coming back to haunt me now! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I have no doubt I will love the Healey. My automotive tastes are nothing if not wide, varied, and slightly eclectic. I'm looking forward to doing more of a traditional restoration (Place your hand on the book and repeat after me, "I hereby swear not to put a 454 big block in the Healey!") and hopefully expanding my skills and knowledge.

Thanks for the warm welcome!
Mike

Welcome to the BCF. Always loved those.

Welcome, Mike. The guys on the AH Forum will be able to walk you through getting it back on the road.

Welcome, Mike, from one of the locals. I'm about 20 miles north of you. I've only got "little" Healeys.
You've hit the right spot for help with your new acquisition, as there are some extremely knowledgeable folks on the Big Healey forum.
Enjoy your journey.
Jeff

Welcome to the forum. If you purchase any Haynes manual you will get more informed (or confused) on the British terms. They even have a table with different descriptions in the English and American language.

Welcome MIke! YOu will find quite a Healey following here - so jump into the Healey forum and start chatting!
