Grease fitting ??

Who was the wise guy convinced me this was an "easy" project might take me a few hours-both sides?. I'll be into day four tomorrow.
Careful there, Dale ... you're showing strong symptoms of the classic 'Shipwrights disease' !

Shipwrights disease!!!! My engine went 2 years ago and since the engine was out and it was easy to get to other stuff the front suspension came apart, the rear suspension came apart, the brakes, the gearbox came apart, the steering...... and a whole bunch more. A Herald sure does take up allot of space when it is disassembled! Tomorrow I start a 5 week vacation and in addition to some renovations in my apartment, the Herald is going to be back in approximately 1 piece and pass MOT.

Dale seriously now, painting the hubs and brake holding thingies is really overkill. The first time you use the brakes they are going to be covered with a layer of black dust. I don't think the factory bothered painting them!
As for "clean room clean" I have spent the last 10 years working around semiconductor clean rooms. I can see invisible dirt by now!

Yisrael-

It is a miracle this poor beast of a car could even
turn it's front wheels. The entire insides were covered
with a very thick layer of grease, stones, sand, muck, etc.

The mess was so thick in places I could not feel the
fastener heads to get a wrench on them.

For the diver's side- I'll take the car to a self serve
car wash, pull the wheel and power wash the filth and
crud as best I can.

This project is not technically demanding, it is just time
consuming due to the heavy covering of grease and crud.

thanks for you very excellent instructions.

Please don't tell me that you now have a scratch in the paint on your RF fender. Or is that a skinny shark logo?

Paul,

Just another little gift from my favorite person.
I'm surprised you just noticed it.

Good now that they are clean, is there allot of freeplay or do the turn nicely without allot of wiggle. If the is allot of play they need to be replaced, if not, you just need to replace the nylon bits. Also, take a look at the hole where the nylon bit goes in, they should not be distorted. (this would only really happen if the nylon bit was really shot.) On my car Pedro's evil brother made his own inserts out of rolled up paper!.

One more thing to check, the screw on the link. There shouldn't be any damage to it or it there also should not be any signs of stress or bending. We don't want the front wheels falling off when you go around a bend! At the top of the screw (where the rubber gasket is) look for corrosion damage.
Now put it back together and take that car for a ride.
