Ok... 10 years ago didn't seem that far back, but these negs look terrible. There were (are) a lot of houses around the island, but we hardly saw anyone there doing anything. There were a ton of feral mules walking around, and a small rendering facility (about the size of a small 7-11) in the middle of town with hides sitting in the sun. There were a bunch of B&Bs and only one or two small hotels. The hotel folks asked us not to flush the toilet except at low tide (I think), otherwise we'd have to get a bucket and fill it with water to actually make the gadget flush. We asked about a taxi at the airport and the customs guy (well, he was the only guy there really) kind of scratched his head - then a big truck full of prisoners came by and we hopped in with the guys in the orange jumpsuits. The next day the local police officer let us ride back and forth with him. He wasn't doing much else.
The streets and walkways were lined with Conch shells. There were piles of them everywhere. Dave, if you get a chance stop at the pub and get a fried Conch-fritter platter. I lived on that for a week.
Anyway, here are a few pics - the whole gallery is here.
