Got a Dan Dare hardtop today for my Sprite

Is that flare ridge part already open? Looks pretty good.

Yes, it's an opening. Kinda weird.

That's to vent the cigar smoke.
Look closely, you can see the nicotene stains around the edges.

Whatreya, new?

Reason I asked if it was light:

I remember reading in Car&Driver, years back: must've been when the third brake light was becoming mandatory. One of the contributors (Bedard or Yates, I think it was) had the bright idea to mount a red floodlight under the rear window of his 911, facing straight up, as his third brakelight... From a distance and behind, it would light the entire window with a red glow. As you got closer, it would get brighter. Tailgating semis would get the full wattage right in the face. (He was told by the local constabulatory it was completely illegal.)

Tony what's that on the top of your car, new, old or hand built
Phil

Tony can put in TWO third brake lights...lucky!.....wait, that'd be a third a fourth then I guess....

Old....we're restoring it....its for an MGB & I can lift it on or off by myself.....looking at the rear window area of yours & mine show remarkable similarities.

What's on the underside surface of yours?

On mine underneath it's just like black fiberglass.

All right, I've been told by some of those guys across the pond that this isn't a Pride & Clark Dan Dare hardtop.
No one has identified it other than to say it isn't a Dan Dare.

The thing is extremely lightweight as Tony has pointed out about his.

I just want to find a nice rubber seal for the back where it sits on the car and figure out what hardware should be used to fasten it to the car.

Front of m ine has the normal closures...nothing on rear....sides have "J" bolts & nuts....underside of mine was a very thin, soft headliner which we've ewmoved, smoothed & painted the same color as an MGBC GT headliner....also had to make notches for sunvisors.

Ah, sun visors...

Those must be a part of that whole roll up window, side mirror, door handle type experience... Wait, I don't see wing windows or door handles on your car Tony!

Hmmm... Curious and curiouser...

My top is for an MGB.

The sides of mine have brackets and the front corners have brackets.
I think the sides might line up with the receivers for the top frame, then I could put in a couple bolts to hold it on. I haven't a clue what the front brackets should attach to.
Also, it seems maybe the rubber seals on the side screens should fold in at the top & back and the hard top sin on the rubber? Does that sound right?
I'll try that next time it isn't raining.

Yes, I realize that but do you have roll up windows in that thing? Where are the wings?

Rick won't have that problem here..... we don't see the sun very often. :cooler:

Really? Looks like one to the untrained eye (mine). What isn't "correct" about it?
scrool down

Now that I look at the pictures side by side. I can see they're different.

Whatever it is, I think it & mine are from the same manufacturer.

When I get the proper weather I'll give it a real close look on the underside for any identifying markings. Sometimes these have something like that and sometimes they don't.
