Got a Dan Dare hardtop today for my Sprite

Wondering if this might actually work better:

A = 3/4" and B = 3/4"

If that thing isn't screaming for a thrid brake light, I don't know what is.

Must be real heavy, I see a fork lift in the background......

.......no wonder it has 25 years of dust on it !!!! :jester:

Yea the original designer must have been thinking about 35 years ahead when he designed it. Or reading a comic book. Loooks to be ideal for a brake light conversion. Far as weight, I can grab it at the brake light location with one hand as extend my arm straight out. Its extremely light. The overall thickness is a little over 1/8". The 25 years of dust is becasue its been sitting on the top shelf out of the way.
That forklift is holding a 5.0EFI/AOD waiting to drop in a `65 F100 stepside.

Ok, looking for seals now.
This is serious folks, there is a place that sells the stuff for about $12 per foot and if I have to get it there so be it...

However I thought maybe someone here might know of a place where the stuff is a bit more reasonably priced.

Here is a picture of the "new style" seal. This (they say) doesn't mar the paint finish like the older style.

There is a company in the industrial part of town that carries all of the weatherstriping thats currently available. I need to stop by and get a catalog. Been meaning to do this since all of the retail and restoration stores rape you on that stuff.

Hollow round is good....but....the purpose is A) to hold the top just enough off the body the paint dosn't chip, B) keep the weather out (and the heat in), and C) not "moosh" out so bad it looks like crap.

Meet all those requirements, you're home safe.

Agreed, the guy that sent me the pics said the older style and the newer style both worked but the round one didn't do bad stuff to the paint.

There ya go.
If someone has done the experimenting (read: expensive trial and error) and knows this one works, AND meets all of the requirements of A) above, you're home free!

Where can I buy this seal? It is just what I have been looking for to seal the engine compt. on my Westfield. I am using pipe insulation now, but as previously stated, it looks a bit redneck.....

Never underestimate the curative properties of a small spool of bailing wire and a roll of duct tape. Saved me from being stranded on several occassions...with several different cars.

I saw another top like on my BE. The car is even a right hand drive line mine too.

HERE

I also just got a Dan Dare hardtop for my frogeye. Mine was (still is) a bare shell. There is a company over here in UK that still sell this. I have just taken delivery of a replacement window, bolts to hold it on & rear body rubber.
See photos.

I can't help but wonder if these work on an MK1 Midget.....I like 'em.

Man I gotta get me one of these! Looks cool.

Man those are some big pics! Thats definately the same top mine has. Glad to know parts are available. Looks like the weatherstrip RickB is wanting too.

I dont care for the lack of quality on those hooks. The threads would ideally be rollformed. But they look like a cheap die from Harbor Freight was used without any lubricant. The threads should not be all uneven and chipped like that. Then the other end was dipped in that liquid plastic thats available like is used on pliers handles. Maybe I am just too anal about things. That could explin why it takes me so long to get something finished.

The length from windshield to back of top is 45 inches.(straight line measurement) If you have this much distance before hitting the front of trunk, it should work.

What the heck happened to this thread? Somebody's photos are way to big forcing the screen to be larger than a computer screen can handle....whoever it is, could you please downsize your photos or do what's necessary to reformat the thread so it fits a computer screen?

Plus, it's slowing down the loading of the thread!
