Golf

The opposite end of the spectrum was a family-owned par-3 course. If it wasn't busy the owner didn't care if you took 2-3 balls at once. Relaxing, fun, nice place - even played in the snow occasionally.

That's almost the circumstance where I learned to play as a 13-year-old kid. Full 18-hole course but family owned. I was there almost every day, played with uncles and friends, played with the owner's son.

Still there, too.

I have heard that the origin of the name "GOLF" is Gentleman Only Ladies Forbidden, but don't know how true it is.

And backwards, it's FLOG - which is what you might as well do to yourself...

It's called Golf 'cos they couldn't think of another 4-letter word that wasn't already used.

Oh THANKS A HEAP, Bill!!! :jester:
