Paul, you are correct. As with all pilot vehicles, they underwent developmental testing, and then were scrapped.
When I was working at the GM Proving Grounds, it was always a hoot to destroy a brand new vehicle. Of course, we had fun abusing them prior to their trip to the scrapyard. A lot of the vehicles were used for fire/rescue training, ie, burned to the ground.
And, the easiest way to pull the drivetrain in a brand new, shiny Corvette is with the proper application of the gasoline powered chop saw! We took what was left to the scrap heap in the back of a pickup.
