Edinburgh is a lovely town. Be sure to walk the Royal Mile and see the sights along the way. Hollyrood Palace is at the end of the Mile, where Mary Queen of Scots was murdered (check out her room). The Scottish Parliament building is there, too.
Also, check out Royal Mile Whiskies, a fantastic liquor store up near Edinburgh Castle. At Edinburgh Castle you'll find stunning views of the City and the Firth of Forth there. There are many stores along the Royal Mile, all with their specialty Scot products including woolen clothing, kilts, etc.
The National Art Museum is a must-see, and also the Royal Botanical Gardens.
Public transportation is very good, you can catch a bus on practically every street corner, fare is very cheap and the buses are clean and efficient.
What impresses me most about Edinburgh are the people. Very polite and friendly. My wife and I were riding on a bus once there, and an ELDERY lady offered her seat to me! Somehow, she made me proud of my Scot heritage.
And be sure to read some Robert Burns before you go, just to get you in the right frame of mind!
Great place, Edinburgh.
