Gas tanks????

I really could use a new tank. The car I am working on has a tank that looks as if it was backed onto a big boulder at some time. So, I'm wondering if anyone is familiar with the gas tanks that are currently on the market that are made in Canada. Do they have internal baffles like originals? Filter on the pick up? Screw holes that are compatible with the old sender? In general worth buying or should I try to straighten my tank. I have to take it off anyway to rectify a sending unit problem.

Not sure if it the same brand but I bought a Victoria British Tank back in the day - problems, all bolted in and god quality. I recall that it didn't have the attachment for the return that the 1500's had but mine was gone anyway. I think they are easier to replace than repair

And they don't have a drain built into the bottom of the tank. Before Install I took mine to a radiator shop and had a bung welder/brazed in.

Looks as if this tank hasn't got a drain either so I guess it isn't original. Think I'll replace it.

The Spectra tank’s are of decent quality and don’t have baffles or a drain plug. I’ve used them on a Bugeye and an MGB without issue, but be aware that the fill pipe on the Bugeye tank may be a little short especially if the rear of the car has had any bodywork. If you decide to use one be sure to inspect the continuous weld that runs around the the tank to join the two halves...it’s been reported that some leak. These tanks are also coated with Nitern and it’s tough to get paint to stick to.

Thanks Rut. This is for a Mk3 Sprite and i sprung for a tank on flea bay. Canadian made and the seller claim's it has baffles and a drain plug. The tank I have on the car now appears to be leaking from the seam. That could have been caused by the trama it's gone through though.

I put the VB tank into my '69 Sprite. The biggest issue I ran into was discovering damage from a rear end collision that bent some of the studs where the tank bolts on, turning a rather easy swap into a ball buster, but I was able to make a successful installation. It still beat having to deal with the tank straps like I have on my '53 Plymouth.

Then new one I got from Moss had no drain plug and .... the metal around the fitting was sure thin. .... I was trying to get the gas gauge to function. The sending unit (again from moss) float leaked, filled with gas and sank. The tank got pulled and new one installed. Then the tank started leaking around the outlet fitting. And again. The act of putting it in thrice and out twice weakened it so much that gas weeped out around that fitting. Luckily someone makes a putty to seal gas leaks.

I miss the drain plug.

I may have to attack a sending unit problem as well but, as of now, I'll save that till I have the tank off. New one isn't here yet and I'm putting the suspention back to stock because our roads are so bad I can't stand a performance ride. Spring club car show is the 5th of May.
