gas tank strainer in Bugeye

getting ready to clean and seal my gas tank and realized there is a strainer in the gas tank. how the devil do you change this thing ?

I asked that question couple years back. I can't figure that out either but the lttle bugger was installed somehow. I tried to be as careful as I could when sloshing the sealant.

The tank filter is a non serviceable part; it was installed before the two halves were welded together. I concluded that they felt if the tank was contaminated bad enough to stop the tank filter up that they just replace tank. For the cost of a new tank about $200.00 having peace of mind is worth the cost of a long distance tow bill due to sealant brake down stopping fuel flow. Sealants are a temporarily repair.

I did refinish the inside of my tank, I poked around at the strainer to remove as much as possible, now 3 years later i have had my fuel quit flowing on 3 occassions so a new tank is going in in the next couple of months so I have a worry free summer.

If I were you, I would disconnect the gas line from the tank and shove a stiff wire in to unplug or remove what may remain of the strainer or is pluging it.

Unfortunately the strainer is part of a housing, at least on my 65, so it is not possible to really get at it, I pu a lot of time in on this thinking I had it licked, unfortunately there is some kind a debris in there that seems to settle in the wrong spot over time, to fix that I undo the fuel line and blow air into the tank, works but I've had enough. I see where VB has tank, straps, and sender as a kit for $180.00, that will work just fine, they charge more for the tank alone.
