Gas pedal sticking - maybe the cable?

I'd be driving Frank more this winter except the gas has gotten a bit sticky - if I push the accelerator it wants to stay there.

If I sidestep the pedal then it comes back down a lot faster.

Is it the cable, or maybe a spring? What should I look at first?

Could be the peddle. They are held against the back of the foot well by 2 clamps a little squirt of WD40 should loosen it up.

Maybe spray some carb cleaner on the throttle linkage then
lubricant the linkage - see if it frees it up?

Don't know how hard it would be for you to disconnect the throttle cable (given the Nissan...), but that would be my next step...

I accquired a cool tool somewhere along the way that clamps on a cable and seels around the jacket. Then you simply put the little straw from your favorite spray lube in a tiny hole and spray it right down the cable til it comes out the other side. Real nifty. Mine was made for Yamaha Golf cars but it's a neat tool to have if you can find one.

Assuming it's a lubrication issue - would dry lube not be better? I'd be anxious that a wet lube would attract even more dust & grit.

I used to see those clamp-on lubricators sold to lubricate motorcycle cables, bet that one could be found on the motorbike sites.

There's an HD dealer just about a half mile from here.
I wonder if they might have one.

So I walk in the Harley shop and say:
"Hey, I need one of those clamp on lubricators!"

What could go wrong?

I've got one of those cable lube tools for my motorcycle -- works well. If it is a cable issue, you can get a few made a bike shop (assuming it's similar to the one on the Bugeye). Mine cost only a couple dollars. You can probably make a couple cables for the cost of fixing your existing one.

I'll bet if you look at the spot where cable goes through brass grommet on the throttle linkage you'll find burrs or cable broken or frayed. Cable from local bicycle shop fixes the problem real quick. Even the ends match up on throttle pedal side. Pull out the inside wire and rethread.

Either that of throttle return spring got disconnected.
