gas card?

I've been reading and hearing from folks about "buying a $500 gas card".

They tell me it'll save money as gas prices keep going up. But when I ask if they're buying gas, or just getting a $500 credit at the station, their expression turns blank. Then they manage a feeble smile and say they thought it would save money, but maybe just make 'em feel better.

Is there such an animal as a gas card - where you buy *gallons* and not just dollars worth? Anybody doing this? Here in the northeast we do that with heating oil, but never heard of it for gasoline.

 Tom..that card would last me a month with my 40 mile one way commute..Oh wait that was based on yesterdays price per gallon...

The only way I could see a card based on gallons being profitable would be collect everyones money then get the heck out of town!!!

Hmm - give the oil company an interest free loan. Wow - that'd make me feel better for sure...

Anyone interested in a bridge?

Yeah! The one between Texas and ANW(A)R...

...or "Somewhere Over China"...

Sounds like the same sales technique as saying "we'll pay off your loan no matter <span style="font-style: italic">how much you owe!</span>". People think they're getting a deal without having the sense to understand their old loan gets folded into the new one.

DUH!
