Fuel Pump

After driving the moggie around a little on Thanksgiving day I parked it, walked in the house and walked back to find a pool of gas underneath. For an added bonus, the oil sump is full of gas now :wall: . The fuel pump has a leak in it somewhere and I'm trying to track down the same style pump that is currently on it. All the other pumps on TR3- powered Morgans or TR3s are designed with a separate clear bowl and filter to the left of the pump, whereas the one on my car has the filter incorporated into the top of the pump in a dome.

The current pump has the following on it:

Didn't know if any of you guys knew which pump this is, I'm not sure whether or not it is OE.

Thanks,

I'm way out of my element on here, but I would think that the pump you have is non-standard for a Morgan. I'd expect the same TR3/4 AC pump as we have on our Triumphs. Opinion only, I know Morgans have a different radiator outlet/thermostat setup so there are differences, but I don't see why the fuel pump would be different.

Thanks for the help guys, just noticed it says "APG" on it.

All mechanical pumps can fail that way. It usually depends on the gas tank placement if the sump fills up with gas....on our TR3's the tank is high so gravity will fill the sump w fuel.
Your diaphragm is most likelt seriously split and the arm stroke of the pump oriented so as to allow for great drainage.

Hello Read,

If you contact Mike at Then and Now Automotive (Link in Paul's post above) he can identify the pump and let you know if he can rebuild it. He did a great job on my TR3 pump...

I'd trot off to the local NAPA store and get the TR-3 AC replacement one and not look back.

NAPA online only shows one for the TR4, I'm guessing they are the same - but can anyone verify?

Also, I was pondering the idea of switching to a electric inline pump, does anyone have any input on this option? I would have to make a block off plate for the block, and just wire it in hopefully - not sure if (+) ground would drive the pump backwards or something .

Yes, same pump TR2 thru TR4 so should be fine for you. Some use an electric (e.g. the Facet pump) but really a mechanical pump can be quite reliable and looks so right in the engine compartment -- the latter may matter since it is in a highly visible locale on the Moggie.

Don't know about the NAPA pump, but I think you can now get replacement TR pumps with the priming lever (as original). IMO this is a useful thing to have, especially on a car that is not driven daily.

Thank you everyone!

When I go by NAPA I'll inquire if they have one with a priming lever, it would seem very handy to have.
