Front Flip or not on my 59 BE

Bruce;
I honestly do not remember where I got my hinges etc. I do have the plans and a hardware list somewhere. If you send me an e-mail to: montpaul@msn.com I will scan the plans, installation instructions and hardware list and send them along. I seem to think the plans may have been in "Gerard's Garage" site. Someone will know.

I've posted copies of that plan here on the BCF as well. PM me if you want a copy of the .jpg files

Jack...I chekced out SpridgetMania...can't use bumpers with their kit.

Gerald's Garage is under construction...I keep checking it.

Tis the other one then, winners circle?

Ben;
I just came in and I am about half done with my install. It is going fine and should be ready for a tilt and fit check tomorrow evening if my motivation holds up. That part is iffy at best. I will keep you posted. I am doing mine on my new Spridgetech fiberglass stock hood. Very nice product but I am ading a couple of doublers at the hinge point, just in case.

I found some install instructions for the mini mania kit online https://www.spridgetmania.com/ArticleV.cfm?DisplayID=29 click on the part No. to see the kit. This gives you some idea what the conversion requires if you use this kit or any other. I also found a some pictures of a sebring sprite tilt bonnet on another list. If there is a request I can post the link.

Gotta love those instructions for the flip front setup:

""Set these (parts) aside for the next swap meet."

When I was stationed in Hawaii, I saw one done ( a flip front) on a early style Midget (could have been a Sprite, as I didn't know any better at the time) that was set up to look like a psuedo racer (I say psuedo cos the guy drove the thing back and forth to work) and I loved it. Thing was jewel-like with DCOE's. British green and tan, and for some reason I remember it being Chevette powered- yes anyone who works in a shipyard can have anything fabricated, from a Chevette powered MG with DCOE's to a shortened '52 Crosely truck with a drivetrain out of a '79 Chevette (that's me). That bumperless Midget with the flip front and roll bar always kind of stuck out in my mind, even to this day. I miss my Crosely, too.

My steel is all pretty nice and I have a complete car, however if I was messing with a clapped out car or a shell I had to piece back together, I'd love to build something like that.

I admire you Bugeye guys that have all original cars- I wasn't as hardy and inversely frustrated with my complete rust free late model!

Maybe the guy who owns it is here. Any Hawaiian shipyard workers with MG's?

I still haven't sorted out my front flip, but I'm determine to make it work/look right. I've put it on the back burner for now so that I can make some progress on the "grunt" work that doesn't involve "head-scratching".

I installed mine for test fit and function prior to paint. I did note that there would be an issue with the wings rubbing on the way down if you didnt have two people letting the thing down. I've got to get that sorted and plan to use some teflon "buttons" on the lower inside corners until I get a better idea.

I know Trevor's been pondering this as well...

This is the slickest latch system I have seen. I've been assembling the parts for it but haven't constructed it yet.

Hold down latches

I thought about that one as well. Even spent some time hunting latches. Then I decided that it didn't fit with my plan of simplifying and reducing clutter in the engine bay. And, with my luck the cable would slip at an inconvenient time and the bonnet would be stuck shut.

Nice as that is, it does not address the tendency of the bonnet to "splay-out" and/or flap at the sides (admittedly probably more of a problem with a 'glas bonnet like mine /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/blush.gif )!

I have thought about Spitfire units mounted from inside the footwells and invisible to the outside!! (Just missed a pair on ebay too, darn it!! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/mad.gif )
