Just stumbled on these guys - WOW!

Listen to their cover of "Be My Baby", around the 28-minute mark. Nice rendition!

No reason they can't get signed. Mick, can you figured out exactly where they are? I know there at the top of the lower but exactly where along the canal I can't figure out. It's gotta be south of North Robinson around where the level broke and must be below Holy Cross "at the end of the line".

Last time we were in the Lower 9th, we drove up Dauphine to where it turns toward St. Claude. Looks similar. Definitely Holy Cross area. Will have to Google the Art House and see what turns up.

Ya know, I thought it looked like Dauphine but we're from the other side, 2833 to be exact. It was my uncle's, great granmother's and great aunt's house. Longest house in the Marigny. It's on the corner of Dauphine and Press. Lakeside down town to be exact. Google street view down press and see how long it is. It's long but to the best of my knowledge there isn't a door connecting the front part to the back. We always had to go outside to another door to see my GGM and GA.

I used to work at a funky VW shop just north and west of the Art House. I'll see if I can figure out exactly where.

Did you know Steve Antonini - used to have a shop (Bug Power?) on Banks St. between Jeff Davis and Broad.

.

No, that was probably before my time.

Dude, I worked one block north of the Art House at the corner of Jourdan and Rampart. The House is 970 Jourdan but the shop was located ~ where 4751 Rampart would be. The name IIRC was Mark's VW's. He must still be there as there is a type 2 bay window in the front and what looks like his old Dodge truck around back on the Rampart side. Y'all may remember the story I told about the truck. He had three different guys comming in and rebuilding the motor. It just depended on who was there at the time. He wanted me to work on it and I refused, siteing I didn't know who did what and it was a disaster waiting to happen. He wasn't happy and had to wait for the next guy to finish it...which when he did...it knocked badly.

..surprise, surpsrise...

On the Rampart side that garage door thing was a worst srpay booth you've ver seen and the little shed thing up by the fence was the "new parts department". The shipping container/tool shed is gone as well as whatever he had in the back and on the side for body and drivetrain parts storage.

It was the nuttest shop I ever worked at. I was hired for parts but he moved me outside to work on stuff which I didn't want to do. Work was always slow and sometimes he didn't want me to come in sometimes for weeks. I finally gave up and got another job. THREE MONTHS later he calls me and wants me to come in to work. I explained I had gotten another job (at UNO) and he was mad at ME! I couldn't believe it. Far be it for me to seek a sorce of income.

The sad thing is he bought out an old parts store and had a TON of NOS stuff that went under in Katrina.

I knew that area looked familar. I drove around there a lot durring lunch. The was a Suzuki triple just around the corner from the Art House. That's actually a pretty cool area for the lower 9th.

I figured it had to be around there as none of 'em were leakin' and they still had all there stuff.

Just remembered - it was Mini Power. Good guys. This was in the late sixties, and early seventies. I'm pretty sure his partner died a while back, but lost track of Steve long ago.

Uhhh, late sixties I was born and early 70's I was still tryin' to figur' out how to wipe me, oh nevermind. :angel2:

Folk is now hip? I didn't realize this till just a few days ago with whatever award thing that was on. When did this happen?

Why don't I ever hear any music like this?

Seems pop has burnt itself out and all that's left it true artists. A very welcome and nice change pace if you ask me.

Thing is, it's always been around. Problem is, no one ever listened to us. :smirk:

"Ybor City"

Gotta love it!

Hurray for the Riff Raff :encouragement:

Crooked Still: one of the pioneers of this current movement and one of my favorites. What do you guys think?

Would love to make it down there - not in the cards this year.

As an aside, Miss Janet made red beans (Camellia brand, of course!) and rice tonight, complete with andouille sausage. It IS Monday, after all... :eagerness:
