Janel

1275 + BE = high fun factor /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Patrick

Ah perhaps. My bil's BE has the itsy engine in it. Maybe we can put this engine in Brian's RB, put Brian's 1500 in Al's BE...

The only concern I have, is how long those wires have been in grass/dirt. 'Part from that, looks like a great find!

Keep that 1275!

Getting out of here early, going by the Caboose now. Does anyone have any Kevlar?

Uh...doesn't look like you require any Kevlar tonight, Janel!

Well JB,...putting a 1275 in a 1500 midget is more work than its worth. Buy it, get it running and sell it,{or keep it}those midgets have a following. by the way, remember those old commercials that started with a syncophat sucking up to the boss, and saying "well JB".

That's not a bad idea. Flip it. I've seen worse sell on ebay for $1500 to 2k in the past few weeks. Polish it up.

I won't lose money. Gauges, wire conversion, steering wheel, top frame, chrome bits

How many do you want, Janel? I've got boxes & boxes of Midget stuff!

I dunno J.B. Usually someone living in a really weird house with lots of junkers around it means they don't wanna part with anything. I bet you'de be lucky to have him let it go for anything reasonable.
It'll probably rot where it sits.
Good luck though... I could be very wrong (hope I am actually)

Tough call Janel. Midgets are not that much cheaper than Bs to restore and they just don't command the same price when done. Not everyone fits into a Midget either (like me - too tall).

Don't be surprised if the guy (I'm going out on a limb here assuming a guy is living in the caboose) asks some ridiculous amount of money for "that rare MG over yonder". Take cash, preferably $10 and $20 bills. Do not bring a trailer, or at least have Chuck follow you with it. Be prepared to walk away.

It does not look that bad, but for the same $, a roundarch car would be more desirable.

If I were going to stray from a B, a TR6 or a Spitfire (I know, I know) is more fun to drive then a Midget. For me anyway.

Well. That was fun.

Quite a unique individual, that guy. Drove by twice before I got the nerve up to knock on the caboose. Told him I'd noticed the old car sitting the other day, stopped and looked at it briefly. Asked him if he'd be interested in getting rid of it. Said yea, he wanted $900 for it. I laughed. He gave me a ugly look and I proceeded to tell him the engine was most likely seized, the splines shot on the wheels, factoring in body work, interior, wheels and an engine rebuild I'd be dropping thousands into it if we wanted to restore it. Told him I'd give him $300 then and now and have it gone in 24 hours.

Said, 'Naw, been sittin' there some time. Doesn't eat much, doesn't take up no room, doesn't cost nuthin, I'm asking $900.' I asked him how long he'd been "asking $900" gave him my cell # and told him to call if he wanted to unload it for $250 since no one was beating down his door to buy it.

C'est la vie. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

typical, I've got lists that span pages of cars sitting in the exact same situation.

Good move, Tony will be proud.

Uh huh...

Hey, wasn't looking for a Midget anyway, so I didn't lose a thing. Spent the evening driving Emma, still 60 degrees here (glorious past 4 days) - so not a biggy.

You always get this lowball quotes of what someone thinks a car is worth and really I think it is meaningless for the most part. If someone rings my phone today and just wants a crankshaft core for a 1275, it's $150.00, they bring over $100 on ebay most of the time, I just sold a Mini block and crank yesterday for $300. Say the Midget has solid floors and the guy wants $500 for it and there's one down the street with rust everywhere and someone wants $100 for it, if you're going to restore, which one is the bargain. I get cheap cars from time to time, even get free one every once in while, got a free just a few weeks ago, have not went and even picked it yet and if someone beats me to it, fine. I once had a customer wanting to build a Midget race car, a guy in NC offer us a choice of three tubs he had sand blasted for free, but the truth of it all was all three were rusted to pieces, no floors even present, rocker boxes with holes in them, for this guy to pay me to fix one of those car would have been expensive, so free wasn't really a bargian for our project. In the meantime we heard of a guy also in NC who had parted out a Midget, that had a great rust free body he had snadblasted and shot with primer, he wanted $500 for it, that's one we got and it literally saved my customer a few thousand dollars. The same guy called me later with another Midget tub, just the tub, rust free, blasted in primer, same deal $500, I didn't even blink a eye and went and got it, it been sitting in my home garge on cement blocks for like 3 years now. I fiquire whats a couple hundred dollars in a good solid tub that I will turn into a $30K racer. The real answer to your question Janel, is what is it worth to you.

For you bargain hunters, I have a 73 round tub Midget tub, a week away from the crusher, it's free to whomever wants to come get it.

Hap, you are absolutly correct. If one guy does'nt want it,the next guy will. Most Brit car guys know the score,(car guys in general)and know when they are being bamboozled by a potential buyer.Ebay not withstanding. There is a huge difference between buying from a face and buying from a computer screen. The face is there to help, many times for years after. Not to mention, when you build a friendly relationship with the face, the part becomes almost free cosidering the time and labor and tools the face will provide for probably free. It was refreshing to read your post.

I don't know what that guy was smoking before he asked for $900, but I wouldn't mind a puff of it.

It's usually that these guys don't want anything for the car, they just want YOU gone! so they give some obviously outta line price hoping you will leave them alone - and you do. I still stop at every old interesting car I see because the few times when the owner is reasonable are well worth it.

Yep... I'm that guy that wants you gone type. If I ain't gonna fix it, and somone I don't know wants it... it's gonna be for what I bought it, plus some... regardless of it's current condition - unless it's something I want rid of. Hey Hap... I swap you a 1993 rusty (nothing through - it's all surface rust, and just on the roof) Eagle Talon DL for the midget tub.
