Forum to rescue LBC's

Hello:

I was wondering about a forum for people to post cars they have seen sitting on the side of the road or heard about that they want to alert the board members to for possible rescue.

Kind of like the Greyhound/Lab rescue league.

I have seen a couple of cars around my town that are looking to be rescued, but don't have the time or inclination, but would be more than happy to notify others of.

I sorta collect old large fram garden tractors & saw one at a town soccer game. Posted it on the tractor website & a guy got it for nothing & with a little bit of work has a great running Allis Chalmers machine.

These cars deserve to be saved! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/square.gif
 
Yeah that would be great.....I think we've "rescued" almost everything around here from MG's to Corvettes and everything in between, actually come to think of it wouldn't a general classic car rescue forum be even more useful??
 
Great idea, but it would sure increase the postings from a lot of wives, including mine.

Are they considered abandoned and needing rescue if they are in your own driveway?

I'd like to rescue a few from museums...but alas, I'll have to set my sights on more derelict cars, like the '70 Mustang Mach1 sitting in front of a house down about 25 miles away for the last 10 years.

I'd like to see it also. Unfortunately, my area doesn't have much in the way of LBC's. I did see a Midget in a wrecking yard about a year ago tho'!
 
I take the train into Boston & just before I get downtown go past a few wrecking yards, I try & keep my eye out at 20 mph for a familiar shape!
 
Mid 70's MGB needs recue

Ok, here goes, this is what inspired me to bring up the LBC Rescue league.

I've noticed a mid 70's MGB sitting behind a gas station for some time in Rowley Mass, just off of RT 1A/133.

I used to see it running around town, but it appears to have been sitting idle for a year or so.

Anyone interested I can try & catch a phot & more info, the rest would be up to you to perform some detective work.

This can actualy be somewhat interesting & rewarding.

It doesn't look like it's in the greatest shape, can see rust along rockers as the paint is white.

Any info required please PM me & I'll see what I can do.

I drove through the little SE Colorado town of Springfield this week on my way home from a trip and saw a large storage yard full of hulks from the '40s, '50s, and '60s. Lots of brown "paint" on most, but probably not a lot of rust-through since Baca County was part of the Dust Bowl in the 1930s.

I immediately began thinking of ways to get some of those cars to Denver, where they could be worth some real money to street rodders who are going to gut the cars anyway. You can think what you want about street rodders, but they "save" a lot of engine-less, interior-less cars that would likely go to the shredder, as is being discussed on another thread about California orphan car laws.

Now if I could just find a 1970 Boss 429 Mustang in one of those places, I could take early retirement! And it would even keep the wife happy if I finally made a killing on a car./ubbthreads/images/graemlins/devilgrin.gif

All this talk about Mustang's reminded me I also found a 70` Mach 1 sitting in a driveway almost completely covered in vine....maybe I should stop by!Most of our MG collection could be considered "rescues" expect for the 58 MGA and the two 78 MGB's...I've got a list of around 10 cars in my area waiting to be rescued, just recused a 73 Corvette Roadster a few months ago....Tryin to rescue a 57` Ford Meteor right now....If anyone is interested their is a great website about rescues and barn finds at www.carsinbarns.com It's mostly Muscle cars but their are some VERY interesting stories on their(I've even posted a few of mine).

About 3 seconds after this picture was taken a mouse jumped out from the front bumper and scurried away....car sat for 12 years under a tarp, a month later we we're riding around in it! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/patriot.gif

Thanks, I forgot to include that it was the original owner that let it sit for all that time....I think still had the original haircut from when he bought it too :p lol

Let me think about that for a while. On the surface it doesn’t sound like a bad idea, but I am reluctant to start forums that may not be very active (that’s why the marque forums are limited to just major marques, and some of those are not as active as I’d like). In the meantime, if people find cars that might be available, I encourage people to post in the classified forum with whatever contact information may be available.

I find all my cars by knocking on people's doors who have a car in the yard with no tag on it or expired tag. Quite often they say take it away or give a great price for it. Found my TVR in a carport of a house that nobody lived in. The MG I drive had 32000 miles on it AC and wire wheels. Just knocked on the door and picked it up for $800.
Don't be afraid to knock on doors.

I'm moving to Orlando! (just kidding!) In 3 years I've seen a CB MGB driving around and a wrecked Midget! And I look in everyone's yard as we're driving along.
 
Amen! hottvr! I knock on someones door every few weeks! definatly the best way to get old cars...Always disappointing though when you get a "sorry I am going to restor it someday" That "someday" rarly comes and the car just sits and deteriorates.
