I have done many shrink fits on a number of machine parts....you can freeze the pin as well! I would do both, heat and freeze! I use a preset telescopic gage or inside micrometer to take rough measurements of the heated bores before attempting to drop in the pin or sleeve or what have you! Nothing more fustrating then getting a pin or sleeve stuck in halfway and cocked resulting in egg shaped or warped bore.
I always have a press and v blocks ready just in case i have to square and press the pin or sleeve in. If you are dealing with a size on size or .0005 interfearence fit you really don't need to heat anything, A light table press will work fine, because this is such a light fit....anything .001 and over heat, freeze or both will make things nice and easy!
