Fitting a 100-Six grille.

Many moons ago I removed the original grille and replaced it with a wire mesh, probably for looks but also saved a bit of weight. I was contemplating re-fitting it and took a look at what might be required. I guess the top three tabs on the grille attach to the same bolts that hold the eyelid piece of trim. Is that correct?

My problem is the what do the bottom three tabs of the grille attach to. Looking at the bottom of my shroud there seems to nothing that I could attach the grille to. About 5 years ago I had a couple of offs which re-arranged the shroud and it needed a lot panel beating to get it to where it is now, maybe the fittings disappeared during that work. I had the wire mesh at the time so it wasn’t an issue.

So question is, what do the bottom three grille tabs actually bolt on to?

There are supposed to be three tabs on the bottom. Mine are pop riveted to the edge of the bottom of the opening and the chrome trim strip covers the rivet heads.

MY BJ8's have three tabs at the bottom that require three nuts bolts and washers to secure the grill. ??

Heres a pic where you can see the holes where the steel brackets are riveted to.

My car's in the body shop right now and am dealing with this. The three tabs on the bottom are held on by tiny flathead countersunk rivets. Wish I had a pic, but car is, alas, still in the shop (7 months now).

IIRC the upper 3 bolt through to captive nuts in the grille eyebrow. All grille fastenings are 1/4-28 bolts.

Thanks guys, I obviously no longer have the three tabs and the holes have been welded up. I think the crash caused some splits around a couple of the holes and they were filled. It seems odd that all three of these tabs have disappeared although I can’t recall if all three were present back then or even what they look like! Looks like I’ll stick with mesh for a while longer:smile:

Kilmartin makes kits containing all 3 brackets - part numbers: AH369A for BN4-3000mk1, or AH369B for 3000mkII-BJ8.

Hi Derek,
Could you mount the grill with the upper 3 mounts and position the lower tabs onto the grill to locate where to drill new holes?
