i recently purchased a 1959 100/6 with a sbc engine and transmission. overall the car is very free of rust but has some rather huge fender flares. i will keep the v8 and changeover to an aol transmission, but rather maintaon a more normal healey look. i have already acquired most of the parts that i will need....but fenders! used ones seem scarce. i dont want fiberglass fenders but new fenders are really expensive. are there any used fender sources that are known to you guys? or, does anyone have a used set or even one used fenders...steel of course! thanks and a pic of the car. i believe that the original fenders are cut way to high to try and salvage....

If you find some new (to you) ones, don't get rid of the ones you have until you're sure the new ones fit. I know of sat least one person who had to buy his old ones back when the new ones wouldn't fit.
 
Max, If you find a good metal shaper in your area you would probably have as much money in him fixing yours than buying anything else and expecting it to fit. Here's a pic of some pieces that were produced during a metal shaping seminar I took a few years ago. Find a metal shaper not a body shop. here are some other pics of how bad a "Brand New" fender from across the pond can be and not be even close to fitting the car. Not only with the fender lines being completely off, the rear fender arch was 1/2" higher than the arch of the car. These fenders were brand new and I paid about $950 apiece for them. Then I cut them completely apart. I used metal shrinking techniques to shrink and reduce the arch, then welded the flange and edges back on. I like shaping metal, but I don't like fixing junk that I paid almost 2000 dollars for. when I bought my car, it had been set up for road ralleyng in the early '70's. It had fibre glass fenders on it and they were extremely good quality. Very thick and strong but light. If I knew what I was going to go through to put the metal fenders on it I would have stuck with the fibre glass ones.

Only my opinion your opening up a big can of worms you bought that car for a reason cut your losses and get a complete car the way you want it good luck
 
no, i bought the car the way it was so that i fix it the way i wanted with a v8 driveline but with a more normal look. not interested in a six cylinder healey and most v8 conversions need lots of work to suit my taste. i just recently sold a stock 58 100-6 ....WANTED A V8!

That link that healey blue sent is a deal. You could resell everything but the fenders and get your money back.

well i am pleased to say that i was the winning bidder on the healeyblue link to ebay. six hour drive from my
home. thanks to all who added comments and suggestions and provided links.
 
rick i had not noticed that......assume.....got me on that!... guess i will have to call leo in ohio....again!!! thanks for his link. looks as if three are off of the same car! but, the oddball is another driver ! side
 
As Marv said, there's a lot of good parts there and I bet if you list them individually either here or on eBay you'll pay for your fenders. As has been mentioned, factory fenders didn't fit all that well and there are stories of them "offering up" a few on the assembly line before finding one that fit best (not sure I understand this as I would have thought the fenders would have all come off the same press) Anyway, don't throw away your old fenders until you are sure these fit better. You might have to section these fenders with your old ones to get the right look.

Read an article a while back from a reliable source--someone who worked on the Jensen line, IIRC--who stated that they would press as many as three body parts at a time. That would explain the disparities, methinks.

Yeah, that might explain it. Always good to remember these were production cars and not hand built.
 
I would just paint your car a certain shade of blue metallic and add some white stripes down the center...:chuncky:

I would be interested in the bumpers from the lot. Any idea of the configurations and whether there are any bumper horns?

The story I heard was as the cars came down the line the fenders were offered up to the car . If the fit wasn't good they got a wax pencil mark and put aside . Three wax pencil marks and they went off to the dealers to fix crashed cars as they would have to be beaten into shape to fit the bent car so it didn't matter .
 
after further discussion and a few more pics, most of the parts were junk. i bought a few but the fenders were in bad shape and i dont think that you could get a good fender out of both rears. tonneaus were torn as well as the boots...big holes! the new bumper had been mounted before, only one door not two, grill was warped, and the top was all to pieces.... so i guess pics can be deceiving as well as ebay sellers! let the buyer beware!
