Favorite Sandwich of all time!

street meat for sure, polish or italian sausage on a bun from a street vendor with mustard, onions, relish, saurkraut, cheese and hot peppers.

I rarely eat a sandwich, except out of necessity. But when I *crave* one, it's either boloney on really fresh white bread, regular ol' mustard, smashed up potato chips. Or cream cheese on wheat with alfalfa sprouts, tomatos, black olives, cucumbers and avocado.

Chips on a sandwich are wrong. French fries are Ok, but chips... that's a food faux-paux.

How about tuna salad on white bread with crushed up chips.

You were doing great right up until the chips part. A big hunk of iceburg lettuce is what you want.

Chips on a sandwich? What's wrong with you people /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/nonono.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/jester.gif /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/angel.gif

Chicken salad, banana peppers, sharp cheddar and onion on sweet bread.

Still highly partial to a 'proper' bacon sandwich with brown sauce, if I can get it.

I was thinking along the same lines there, in terms of the bacon butty with brown sauce.....

My ultimate has to be sausage, egg and brown sauce. Proper British Bangers, of course!

#1 Marmite, (or Vegemite if you're Aussie) with aged cheddar on toasted whole wheat bread.

#2 Cheddar and sliced onions with lettuce and tomatoes.

#3 Black Forest ham, Swiss cheese on rye.

#4 Roast beef with chutney or Picalilly (sp?) sauce.
English cooking is not famous but they (we) did invent the sandwich! Well, the Earl of Sandwich did, anyway.

I'm afraid to even ask what brown sauce is.

And FRENCH FRIES on a sammich? You're kidding, right?

Hmmmmm. cant put my top favs in any order, but they are:
Classic rubin,
Monty cristo (hot ham ,turkey and swiss on french toast with horseradish)
and a local one called a "Hurley special" that's juicy roast beef with TONS of garlic, provalone, on a hard roll.

Also like the Spicy itialian sub from Subway (toasted of course)
And how about the good 'ol "mountain pies" made in the iorns over the fire. I like to make "Pizza pies" with those

I like chips on a sandwich too (crunchy American chips, aka "crisps"). I always thought that was called "Philadelphia Style". Left to my own devices I like a very simple turkey with swiss, on toasted bread, with spicy mustard or occasionally chipotle mayonnaise if I have any.

I just got back from L.A. and had several good sandwiches there. At Doughboy's I had a great one-roasted chicken on a sourdough roll, with sun dried tomatoes, goat cheese, and tomato pesto. We also went to a restaurant called Home, where I had a great curried chicken salad sandwich. Proper yellow curry, with onions and celery in the chicken salad, with lettuce and tomato, on sourdough. Mmmm-mmmm good!

Back in the day-around '92 or '93-when I was a freshman at NIU in DeKalb, there was a shop that had neat sandwiches. I forget what they called it (probably a number), but my favorite was turkey, cheddar, lettuce, tomato, onion, and garlic mayonnaise on a roll. But they steamed them, which made them taste just fantastic. I think the place closed down (and I flunked out anyway) but they were fantastic while they lasted!

Brown sauce, aka HP Sauce... this stuff...

I stash a bottle or two in my suitcase on all of my UK trips; it's that good. I think Heinz moved the factory from the UK to Benelux a couple years ago, caused a big stink. Tastes the same to me.

It sounds a little weird, but there's nothing better after a night out on the town in Pittsburgh, after a Steelers game, etc. The downtown location never closes. Yum.

Wrong wrong on so many levels Scott.

French fries are NOT a condiment, they're a side - just look on ANY menu, under SIDES.

And brown sauce is like A1? Brown ketchup? ANYTHING is better than haggis, and YES, I've had haggis. Either way, don't bring me any Barry. I have a feeling it ranks right up there with Branston pickles.

They're really famous for it too, been around forever. They've been on the "Food Channel" and a couple other places several times.

ummm branston pickle, melton mobray pie, pickled onions, sharp cheddar some crusty bread and a small salad now there's a ploughman's lunch

You mean you can't get HP in PA? Any time you are in Toronto a lot of the grocery stores have it, and if you want Heinz salad cream or cross and blackwell salad cream it is also available.

a good chip buttie is hard to beat
