Facet fuel pumps reliable?

The pump I got from Moss gave up the ghost last week, and I can confirm that it just makes a single "click" when it gets 12 volts, but doesn't run continuously. Being solid state I'm guessing the drive circuitry quit. Moss thankfully is sending a warranty replacement, but I noticed that the picture they show actually says "Facet" on it, and the instructions they have online are far more detailed than the ones I got. I wonder if I just got a cheap, brand-unknown knockoff that died. Since the car pretty much doesn't run without it, was this one just a dud? It was only 13 months in use.
 
I've got YEARS on one here. The "cube" type. Needed one "in the field" for the B on a Miami run and cobbed the Facet in. I think it came out of a NAPA store. Been there since '94.

Same issue with the Alfa two years back but I went for a Carter (P60504) in that. It's Weber'd and doesn't like anything over 4~5 PSI, I'd not hesitate to recommend it for SU/Zed-S application.
 
I've had years of use out of my Facet pump that was installed after a Lucas electric pump failed! It can be a bit noisy, but it certainly has been reliable!!
 
I've had the metal cube Facets for years on the Mini and the GT6. They are reliable but noisy. I have been told (no first hand experience) that the plastic bodied Facets are less reliable.

The Carter P60504 that Dr. mentioned above is an excellent pump, much quieter than the Facet. I ran one for a "short" while on the GT6. It failed because I made an idiot's mistake. The Carter MUST have fuel in it as a lube and coolant. I placed a fine filter before the pump and didn't check it. The filter plugged and the Carter pump burned out before my float bowls ran dry. When I went to buy another Carter they were out of stock so I went with the Facet. I would have bought another Carter (and a COARSE filter) if they'd had one in stock!
 
We're usin' that Carter on some Weber equipped Jag 4.2 engines and it (so far) has been great. I figure it's an immersion unit in OEM application, so we put the filter after the pump. It'll likely suck crud for a long time before failure. The Jags are trailer queens (replica C and D cars) so they aren't much of a real-world test bed. But the Alfa has run on one now for at least two years, daily.
 
The facets do have a reputation for reliability, which is why I chose one. The worst place to buy one, though, is Moss or VB, as they charge about double what you'll pay elsewhere.
 
Thanks all, hopefully the one that quit was either a fake or a fluke. Hopefully the new one gets here soon!

Neat link, I've bought EGT gauge for the race car form them before. I never saw those facet interupter pumps, that would be the way to go.
 
The Facet interupter pumps look like a copy of the old Bendix pumps we used on garbage trucks in the 70's. They were a good pump.
 
It looks like all the interrupter pumps deliverer 4-5 PSI or more.
 
Running the Bendix pump that is now the Facet interupter on my MGB for 30+ years and before I fitted it it came off a friends B. They say they are enhanced with different electrics now but I would still put my trust in them.
The bendix has required nothing except a couple cleaning's of the built in fuel filter.

An easier place to get a Facet pump is NAPA, they have the low pressure cube pump in stock or available in 24 hours. They also private label the pump. I think I paid $35.00.

So....which one. The 2-4 1/2 PSI or the 4-6?
I need to get a spare as I go on extended rallys and I'm just asking for my SU to fail in the middle of nowhere. This way if I have a spare in the trunk, the SU will never fail.
 
Get the lower pressure one! The 4-6psi delivers too much pressure for our SUs!
