facet fuel pump never stops ticking.

Hi guys, I have a facet fuel pump installed. I cannot identify the model number but it is cylindrical Even when the ignition is switched OFF the pump ticks and it never stops ticking. I have to use the battery cut-off switch to turn it off.

Any thoughts?

Power must be getting to the pump, has it always happened?, check the wiring on the ignition switch, is there a by pass lead fitted say for a clock this would give continuous power and if this is mixed up somehow with the pump circuit. It would be a matter of tracing the circuit back with a tester. Do you have an electrical diagram, this would help in picking the points to check.

The fuel pump should be wired directly to the fuse block where it becomes part of the ignition circuit. It should be a white wire. Presumably the ignition switch turns off the ignition without problem? Did this problem just start? Have you just switched to a Facet? When the ignition is on, the Facet will continue ticking and never stop as it has a by-pass circuit built in to it.

On the fuse block the white pump wire is attached with the white wire coming from the ignition lock at position 3. If it is attached at 1 or 2 it will be hot all the time.

FWIW - cylindrical pumps generally are higher pressure than SU carbs use - suggest verifying this pump with www.pegasusautoracing.com. You may need to add a regulator.

yes the ignition switch turns off the ignition without problem. Do not ask why but this BN7 came wired with 2 SU pumps (with toggle switches) and the Facent. I had a bad cut-off switch that I just replaced. The problem was on and off and now on all the time

If the fuel pump white wire is properly attached at position A3 with the wire coming from the ignition switch, it will go off when you turn the ignition off. Since that's not happening, either the white wire is attached to a hot terminal on the fuse box or the fuel pump white wire has been hijacked for some other purpose and an unswitched separate wire's been run to the fuel pump.
