When I was in my 20's I got some metal in my eye. They tried getting it out with a magnetic instrument but unfortunately it was non-ferrous. I too underwent the needle in the eye in order to remove it... ouch!
Left peeper has a scleral buckle already. This procedure was to preclude the same for the right one. If it weren't MY eyes this was happenin' to I'd be fascinated by the whole thing.
Had to have it done again last Friday... retinal surgeon called it a "touchup". feh. It HURT the same as the last one. Swelling and discomfort are now on the downhill side. And I can SEE. All good.
Glad to hear it is working for you Doc. Too bad we have to fall apart a little at a time, would be nice to just go strong and simply tip over at the end!
