Exhaust Fume Shield

Well, it's a know fact that five thumbs Dale is
rather auto-mechanically challenged. But I can hold
my own in the designing department. That nice, new
"roll bar" on my finally restore TR6 is in fact an
exhaust fume barrier.

Many folks suffer from Asthma, COPD or other bad lung
ailments and cannot tolerate levels of CO or CO2. I am
one of these folks and the exhaust fumes that enter my
car from behind made driving difficult. My Fume Barrier
works like a charm and I no longer need to carry an
emergency inhaler when I drive the Six.

I designed a decent looking Exhaust Fume Barrier. It can
be installed without the Lexan window for a cosmetic
"roll bar".

Here's a copy of my design detail blue print and the step
by step "How To": should one be needed for other cars.

Dale- Others have had that problem and usually fix it my extending the exhaust tips.But if your idea works,and also helps keep the buffeting down too,go for it

Sir Chick Mag-net and his "Resto Red Ride".

Now how sweet is that photo???? Does that look like a guy who's ever had a breakdown in that car? I don't think so......

It's so shiny that he must spend all of his spare time buffing and waxing it.

So, Sir Chick, is that new item painted or powder coated?

So that's what it is!

Dale, although I appreciate the (yet again) detailed worksheet of this exhaust fume barrier, ..............
it looks [censored] ugly on this fine car. Sorry.
Also from a physical and psychological point of view, the biggest fun driving a TR6 is the noise, smell, sounds and the combination of this utter feeling that the car can (and will) break down any time soon. please remove it or adjust the exhaust pipes. My heart weeps.

Don't feel bad Dale, he didn't like mine either. If I remember the thread.... RICOLAAAAAAAA.

Don't worry Dale, yours is much (by far) better than Roofman's and it has a function as well. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/winner1.gif

Sorry Jobster, to each his own but I won't hold it against you. I respect all Triumph owners. We all have a love of the cars.
Even the brown ones (although I would never own a brown one).I have never seen a metallic brown TR6, is that stock? How about some pix?
Hey my roll bar lookin thingy had a function too!
I'm ready for ya jobster, got my war kitten avatar and everything.

Hey Roofy, mines brown and I hate it and it will be one day metallic brown like a 73 Capri I owned.

Willow weep for me
Willow weep for me
Bend your branches green
Along the stream that runs to sea

Listen to my plea
Listen willow and weep for me

Gone my lover's dream
Lovely summer's dream
Gone and left me here
To weep my tears into the stream

Sad as I can be
Hear me willow and weep for me

Whisper to the wind
And say that love has sinned
Leave my heart a-breaking
And making a moan
Murmur to the night
To hide the starry light
So none will find me sighing
And crying all alone

Weepin' willow tree
Weep in sympathy
Bend your branches down
Along the ground and cover me

When the shadows fall
Bend oh willow and weep for me

Jobster,

Rather than taking occasional shots at Roofy & Dale, why not post a few pictures of your TR6 and let them critique your work for a while?

My call on this challenge to the Jobster?

It looks fabulous! Have you got an extra one, in black?!

Looks nice, Dale. How much vibration at speed do you get, being it's al-u-minium and has no 4-point bottom brace?

Tinster
if you had designed that as a hinged shield, you could have used it as a speed break (aka jet aircraft)......
Regards
Craig

Hey Bill,

I get no vibration at speed. The structural marine aluminum
tubing is quite stout. The Lexan window is seperated from
the frame by rubber washers and rubber spacers on the
bottom. The twin mounting brackets are 6" by 8" and mounted
with 8 thru-bolts.

The frame/window is removeable so I do get a bit of a
rattle when I hit a pothole and the frame joggles upward
and then back down in the mounting brackets.

My tail pipes are extended as far as they can go. I scrape
speed bumps unless I go really slow over them. I noticed
an immediate improvement in the air quality when the fume
shield was installed.

I am well satisfied with the results.

Aha! we're no longer "waiting with bated breath". Bravo!

Speaking of bravo ... Dale - Chad and Jeremy weren't the only ones who liked the willow:

The poor soul sat sighing by a sycamore tree,
Sing all a green willow:
Her hand on her bosom, her head on her knee,
Sing willow, willow, willow:
The fresh streams ran by her, and murmur'd her moans;
Sing willow, willow, willow;
Her salt tears fell from her, and soften'd the stones;
Sing willow, willow, willow;
Sing all a green willow must be my garland.
Let nobody blame him; his scorn I approve,
I call'd my love false love; but what said he then?
Sing willow, willow, willow;
Shall be my garland.
