Engine ID Tag

Can you get a new id tag for a 1275 with the number on it? The picture is kinda blurry but you get the idea. The current tag looks like someone beat on it with a wrench. I want to rebuild and paint the engine but don't want to put this crappy tag back on.
Also can you get the rivets that hold the tag on? If so, where?
Thanks

Try Clark Spares:

Engine Tags

Let me know how they work out, I found them, but I haven't tried them!

Clarke Spares makes new tags or pick up a number stamp kit for under $10 from Harbor Freight or some other cheap tool supply and stamp your own. Practice on a piece of aluminum flashing or even a soft board to get the feel of how hard to hit the stamp. Vic Brit sells the new blank ID tags.
Always use a HARD board under the new tag or you will curl it.
Ask me how I know /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Thanks. That looks like it will do the trick. Another question I have just been pondering is are there any other places on the enigine block that have the engine #?
Is there a Transmission or rear number to look for?

No other place on the engine, that I am aware of, has engine numbers. I haven't noticed any serial numbers on the sprite transmissions I have sitting in the garage. I know that Big Healey transmissions have S/Ns at the top of the belhousing.

thanks. I did not think there was.

There are numbers on the trannys.
Stamped on the left side bellhousing.
Of the 3 I have out of cars, the numbers are....
27479
18951
61711L
So each is different. All the above are ribcases.

Found it. 11790 is the number. I will look for the rear number this weekend when I pull the rear. Engine is out & firewall is stripped except the pesky plug as mentioned in my other thread. I only have the front & rear ends to pull and all I have is just the bare tub. I will attempt a homemade rotisserie and then off to blasting the tub.

I had one made up by Clarke, very happy with it. He sells the rivets to attach it too.

I have also had engine tags done by clarke. nice work for about 24 bucks. includes rivets identical to original.

I had to pay for the rivets. There are 2 different sizes. Nice guy to deal with.

Does he tell you what size rivets you needed or did you have to tell him? I have one broken off in the block & the other looks like it does not want to cooperate. I am going to have to try the drill/easyout method of removal.

I wish I'd know there was a source in the U.S. for the reverse stamped tags. I paid a guy in the U.K. to remake mine.

FWIW, I bought stainless drive pins for my tags from McMaster-Carr. To remove the old ones I used a Dremel to cut a screwdriver slot in the pin head. A few gentle whacks on an impact driver easily backed the old pins out without damaging the old tag (which I have kept).
