I am trying to identify the engine in my 74 gt. For some reason the tag is missing. Is there another way to identify?

Thank you

Paul

By serial number. Moss catalog has a Production Data page near the front. For Model Year 1974 starting with car (GT) 328801 it indicates an 18V engine. I'm sure the Bentley manual can be helpful as well but I don't have it handy.

How else can you ID an egine block if the tag is missing? I only have the word of the previous owner who said the previous owner said that the block is a 1969.

The subject block is from this thread. It is a 5 main block and cast on the side is 2H3 508.

If the tag isn't pulled before the block it hot tanked before a rebuild, it will be eaten away. That being said, the next best way to figure out the build date of your engine is to look for the 'clock' stamped on the side of the block. I apologise to Basil for linking you to another forum, but its discussed in this thread how to read 'the clock'
