Emergency brake stuck

My emergency brake lever is stuck in the up position. The button will not work. what can i do to get it to release? Will it require removing the passenger seat?

By "stuck" you mean it was just applied and now suddenly will not release?

Or you mean it's been sitting for a while with the handle "up"?

Sometimes their hard to release if they have been pulled to the on position with to much force. If pulling back hard doesn't let the button release, then I'd think the paw was froze. Be nice to know what the solution to the problem would be.

Copious and regular application of PB Blaster is my opinion....

Ok, the button on the top has a spring under it and a small pin that holds it on. You can knock the pin out if careful and lucky.

A rod runs from that button to a paw that pivets on a ratchet toothed afair and you can see it from the tunnel side of the brake lever. On down at the bottom is nothing more than a shaft that runs into the tunnel with an arm on the end that pulls and releases the cable.

So, that said you prob has to be in one or more of the three places, the button, the paw pivot pin or the shaft. Any or all rusted, Lots of PB Blaster for a few days and a bit of messing and you will be golden.

I posted this and a couple other photos recently in a similar thread. The photo illustrates the internal working parts Jack was referring to.

Most auto parts stores, builder marts, and hardware stores...ask for it by name. It's a penetrating oil...magic in a can!

It's only a joke guys, only a joke!

If this thing has sat for a long time it could be any number of things. Best to start at the cable ends where it draws the actuating levers out. Disconnect the pins and see if the handle can be lowered. If so, the brake linkage/shoes are the problem... if not, it's the e-brake assembly.
