I was awakened at 4:45 AM by the above named system invading my phone. The message was "this is a test of the Emergency Alert System. No action is required". WTF?
Anyone else get this?

Not as bad as that time Hawaii thought it was under missile attack from NK! Yikes!!Good comment on the need for testing. Looks like Florida slightly overlooked the convenience factor.

Official: Florida has severed its contract with company responsible for errant alert
Public safety representatives ask that angry Floridians not use the test as an excuse to turn off their alerts.www.news-journalonline.com
Ah, you lucky Floridians!
I'll bet! Wonder how many of those guys got the 4AM wake-up on their cellphones...They actually have a published test schedule, with many set for early AM. This is the first I've gotten one. FEMA says it was an error by Fl. Assn. Broadcasters and they are going to try to scotch it. FAB will not answer their phones and their mailboxes are full.

And regardless whether it’s government or corporate, why must we always “ listen carefully” because the menus have changed? If we think private bureaucracies are FUBB, I just tried to buy some "bear bangers" for a camping trip in Idaho. It appears that ATF either doesnt allow them or requires separate licenses and permits to get them. When you call ATF, all field office phones ring to D.C. When you go thru the 8 layer answering system in DC and press that final "3", your phone gives you the screen you started from and the call is disconnected. Probably budgetary rather than malice, but peoples' hatred of the government is understandable.

You left out the Hubble mirror error. One might also ask if "contracting out" is responsible for the morning surprise. Shades of Boeing and the 737Max.
I think the smartphone blast at 4am was supposed to be to TV stations - not smartphones.
Theres a good chance he was not best pleased at being woken up at 4 AM eitherJust learned the outfit responsible for scheduling the four AM up-screw has had its contract cancelled for "misuse of the system"... YAY!!
I'm of the opinion our governor had a hand in the speedy reaction.
