Emargency Alert System

I was awakened at 4:45 AM by the above named system invading my phone. The message was "this is a test of the Emergency Alert System. No action is required". WTF?
Anyone else get this?
Bob

Not here, thank heavens. Could be the next generation of computer-driven junk calls.

My phone is silenced from 11pm-6am. Only family calls will ring through.

Mine went off, I reached over and turned it off. No lighting or rain, so I figured it didn't apply to me anyway!

I know it's a pain, but one day...

It's important that they test these systems, but dang - they could pick a better time of day LOL!

They actually have a published test schedule, with many set for early AM. This is the first I've gotten one. FEMA says it was an error by Fl. Assn. Broadcasters and they are going to try to scotch it. FAB will not answer their phones and their mailboxes are full.

I'll bet! Wonder how many of those guys got the 4AM wake-up on their cellphones...

If we think private bureaucracies are FUBB, I just tried to buy some "bear bangers" for a camping trip in Idaho. It appears that ATF either doesnt allow them or requires separate licenses and permits to get them. When you call ATF, all field office phones ring to D.C. When you go thru the 8 layer answering system in DC and press that final "3", your phone gives you the screen you started from and the call is disconnected. Probably budgetary rather than malice, but peoples' hatred of the government is understandable.

And regardless whether it’s government or corporate, why must we always “ listen carefully” because the menus have changed?

Round here they test the first Wednesday of each month at noon. Course if we had a real weather disaster then, most would probably ignore it until they were flying far above the crowds....

Just learned the outfit responsible for scheduling the four AM up-screw has had its contract cancelled for "misuse of the system"... YAY!!

I'm of the opinion our governor had a hand in the speedy reaction.

One might also ask if "contracting out" is responsible for the morning surprise. Shades of Boeing and the 737Max.

I think the smartphone blast at 4am was supposed to be to TV stations - not smartphones.

You left out the Hubble mirror error.

I hope there is another FEMA approved source for managing the system on behalf of the State. I was not happy with the alert, but when I saw that the Governor's office immediately said that the responsible person would be fired, I wondered if the underlying error was sufficiently severe as to merit firing. People tend to equate the seriousness of a particular misfeasance with the perceived severity of the consequences and they are often not at the same level.
