Re: ebay 6 cyl bn4?

Anthony, I have to keep checking the body designations too. The BN4 was a 6 cylinder, the first 100/6. Still a 100, but a six, not a 3000 yet. the way I remember it is in a kind of multiple of '6'. If I pretend that the first 'Austin Healey 100' was in '53, actually the first one wasn't delivered to the USA till '53, then for about 3 years it was the 4 cylinder cars (BN1s &BN2s). Then in '56 it was the first 6 cyl cars, the 100/6s,(earliest designation BN4) then about 3 years later in '59 it was the 3000s. Now '59 to '63 was more than 3 years but close, then the BJ8 which I consider to be the epitome of the final evolution. I hope I've done a good job of confusing everything.

Re: ebay 6 cyl bn4?

It is interersting with a BN4L-O-4142 ID?, there should actually be 5 digits 4142X.
The first BN4s built started with #22598, but also, since I see the doors include a lockable drivers door per the photos, this featured door was dropped in Sept 57 around # 48387
So this may be some kind of rarity??

Re: ebay 6 cyl bn4?

healy106,i thought the car should have been a bn2,could tell by the numbers somthing wasnt right, felt they did some "switching around".anthony7777 1963 3000 M.K.II

Re: ebay 6 cyl bn4?

7777 - the low number may have been for a BN2, but with the BN4L-O-, this tells you, it is a left hand drive with overdrive. Then looking at the pics, you can easily see it is a 4 seater, with the front shroud of a 100-SIX. I would have to give them the benefit of the doubt, that they simply failed to pick up the 5th digit of the 5 digit number

Re: ebay 6 cyl bn4?

healy106,i personally know of several instances were people tried to register a healey and were told by the dmv.thier vin# never existed and or the vin# was not for thier particular model, bummer! especally when several thousons of dollars had already been spent on them.kinda made me gun shy when i see numbers that look as if they have been contrived. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/savewave.gif
