Personally, I love good sushi. My favorite sushi restaurant is Miyako in New Orleans. Every employee, from the sushi chefs to the janitors, is Japanese, which is a good sign, and they have a high turnover of their fish, always fresh. My rule of thumb for picking a potential sushi place is look at the employees, especially the chefs. Asian other than Japanese will do. Hispanic, black or white guys, never. I am sure they can be capable but it a cultural thing with me.

Anyone else eat sushi?
 
Nope. It's disgusting. A friend of mine is from Japan and is a professional Sushi chef, that's how he makes his living. He won't touch it either.
 
WOW! A sushi chef that won't eat sushi!!! I personally don't care for it. Tried it once, but won't eat it again.
 
Love it! my wife doesn't so there is a lovely little Sushi place my daughter and I go when I get her from school - owners are actually Korean but know what they are doing.
 
Being raised in Louisiana, I'm more adventuresome when it comes to eating!

I don't seek out sushi, but when I have had the good stuff, I've enjoyed it. My favorite is tuna.

On another tack, ceviche is outstanding! Basically Central and South American "sushi", but much more interesting flavor because of the herbs and spices involved, and "cooked" by marinating in lime juice.

Yes, Bill, cilantro's a must! :devilgrin:

OT but your description reminded me of the show Red Dwarf - Arnold Rimmer (the hologram) is eating at the captain's table and sends back his Gazpacho because "this soup is cold"

:iagree:... raw anything, never!
 
I lot of people presume that all sushi is "raw", but it's not (in the broadest sense). I LOVE it although my wife initially didn't because she thought it was all raw fish. Of course most of it is rice... and the variations in its use are endless. One can completely avoid raw fish (or meat = sashimi) and still get a nice meal. [even if Johnny Carson once called it "bait"] :yesnod:

I'm a sushi whimp. I don't go for the big pieces of raw fish, (I've never been a big seafood fan) but I love California rolls. It's really just my excuse to have wasabi!!! I LOVE wasabi.
