Eating sushi

Tried my first sushi ten years ago, and I've been a big fan ever since. Don't eat it much as it's spendy, but haven't tried any sushi yet that I haven't liked. Which reminds me, it's probably time to have some again.

Mmmmm, raw fish.

The local language heer is Papiamentu. Its literal translation is "talking".
A few other words are:
tabata - was
klabu - nail
sushi - garbage

Man discovered fire for a reason.

I prefer my food cooked.

:iagree:... raw anything, never!

Well, I guess y'all would never even consider eating Kibbeh Niyyeh, one of my family's favorite dishes. That would be ground lamb mixed with cracked wheat and seasoned. EATEN RAW!

It sounds good Bill... just cook it and I'll give it a try!

Well, we do cook it by baking it with a layer of "dressing " (coarse-ground lamb fried with pine seeds , onions and cinnamon), or fried in patties or "football" shapes with the same filling. I, of course, trim and grind my own leg of lamb with my trusty commercial-grade meat grinder. Middle Eastern food is "soul food" to me. I pretty much cook it all. My wife is of Lebanese decent but she can't boil water. My three sons have all learned to cook my family recipes, now I just need a daughter-in-law. I have a doctor , a lawyer and an indian chief. Any takers?

WOW! A sushi chef that won't eat sushi!!!

Yup. He's apparently pretty accomplished too from what I understand and he's planning on opening a new restaurant.

Apparently his favorite dish is spaghetti and meatballs. No idea what they eat when he's home in Japan though.

Pretty much my choice of words, too.

Bill, try Samuri in Gulfport if you are ever there. Get the samuri roll. Best sushi kelly has ever had and she's eaten at all the high-end places in Manhattan and SoHo.

For those who like tuna, try wahoo. While I love tuna, wahoo makes it taste like catfish.

My rule of thumb for picking a potential sushi place is look at the employees, especially the chefs. Asian other than Japanese will do. Hispanic, black or white guys, never. I am sure they can be capable but it a cultural thing with me.

:lol:This comming from the Arabian guy who makes gumbo.

Whilst I pick on Bill about that, my mother makes the best ever and her family is straight off the boat from Beruit.
