Eastwood forum - waste of time

Disclosure - I'm grumpy over the state of the customer service I've received from pretty much every company I've interacted with this week, but don't try to get any expert advice from the Eastwood Company forums.

Total waste of time - their experts don't participate. Shows a lack of understanding of how to help their customers or a lack of concern/respect for their customers. Hope it is just the former.

Not really - since I'm about to go sit in line again to get the minivan's oil changed after being at the oil change place right when they were supposed to open only to wait 45 minutes for them to show with no results.

Don't get me started on Cox Communications....

I've heard that you can't pump your own gas in CA or was it NJ? But somewhere.

But they don't let you change your own oil either? My wife used to pay yhe VW dealer $40 to change her oil and that's when she brings her own Mobil1. Once I found out what they cost, it's DIY. Drain, fill, done. And it's relaxing  !!!

You can't pump your own gas in Oregon, but you
still can in California.
You can still change your own oil here, although
I've heard they've banned it in some communities in
Southern California.
If you think Cox is bad - try Suddenlink. Our local
Cox was bought out by Suddenlink. It's even worse now.

Garage is full up right now and I was pressed for time....

NJ requires you to have an attendant pump the gas for you.

I've mellowed out since posting this earlier today.Sorry.

Suddenlink was actually apologizing on TV in commercials out in Amarillo. We have an office out there that I support and it was bad. We finally switched to eliminate the problems.

Have the really banned changing your own oil? That's crazy.

Not to get political, but it will only get worse over the next few years, no matter who goes in. See, I stayed neutral....

There are too many enviro-nuts entrenched in government today in the forms of PAC's and lobbyists. The average guy has no say anymore compared to the money distributors. They get the face time with our elected officials and they influence the votes needed to ban stuff like this, while poor Joe Average goes unnoticed.

His brother-in-law Joe SixPack has been in the news a lot this week!

I thought here in the relatively rural midwest we were somewhat immune to these silly laws, but I did find out recently that it is illegal to work on your car outside per a city ordinance.

Hi Peter,

Its "NJ" for sure with "ALL" Full Service Stations. No "Self-Serve" available.

"CA" ????

I don`t know if they just don`t trust the customers pumping thier own gas or its a "Service" as it was "Back in the Day"?

What I don`t understand is why they don`t "Check your Oil", "Wash you windshield & rear window"??

Here in PA; If you pull-up to a "Full Service"; You will pay about $.20 more a gal. You would be hard pressed to get your windshield cleaned!!!

Yes, here in NJ, we are not allowed to pump our own gas. Which is OK with me.

Especially when it's raining or snowing.

It is also a law in Oregon.

By the way, since a major oil depot ("Bayway") is in NJ, we pay fairly low prices too. I paid $3.04/gallon for regular yesterday.

I have not heard of a state or community where you cannot change your own oil. That is certainly not true in NJ...I do it all the time. We can buy auto oil and filters in many local retail stores and my guess is that so can most other folks in the USA. Obviously, one assumes that you dispose of the used oil properly. That's easy in NJ....most auto service stations will accept it.

Is anyone absolutely sure of a state or town where oil changing is not allowd by the car owner? That sounds like an urban ledgend to me.

Tom,

Trying to get back on track here, just what advice were or are, you looking for?

Hi Paul - now is the time to spray the Heavy Duty AntiRust into the TR8 sills and cavities and I wanted to know how clean the area needs to be first. The UK competitors Waxoyl and Dinitrol indicate that a little bit of dirt or dust is OK, and I'm not really psyched up take a power washer to the inner sills...

Basically looking for confirmation that I can spray the AntiRust without needing spotless interior metal.

I believe that Erik power washed my rockers when he stripped the frame for POR15. Then he applied the Waxoyl to the insides of whatever didn't run away from him.

Yeah - I think that is the way to do it. I think I'll hit then as best as I can and they lay down a good coat of the AntiRust.

Thanks Paul!

Tom- throw a little propane in there ,torch it off and it will be dry!

Waxoyl is a really good product. The secret to using it is get it hot enough to totally liquefy. I use the Eastwood (here we are again, an Eastwood product) compressed air sprayer to apply it. I actually boil the can in a large pot of water atop my crawfish boiler. When it gets totally liquid, I pour a bit into the sprayer bottle and apply. Waxoyl can be applied fairly thick as it dries out over time and thins quite a bit to a protective, oily film that creeps into crevasses and keeps water (and rust) out. It just needs to be applied every few years. I have sprayed the drain cavities inside my splash wells by removing the doors twice. No rust at all. Good especially up inside the rear body cavity. Recommend it highly. Plus, it is English! (Methinks.)
