Spitfire Easier to Work On: TR6 or Spit?

No joke!

She's a keeper alright. Truth be told, she knows that I favor the TR6. She favors the Spitfire. I think she really wants the Spit for herself. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

But she'd do something crazy with it, I am sure, like paint it orange with black tigre stripes. Would make for some laughs at the shows, I am sure. /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif

Well, I say, why not?! Go for it!

Check out https://www.prirace.com/homebrake.htm for some fun Spitfire ideas. I've seen their "motorcycle carb" kit on a 2 liter GT6 engine.... looked (and sounded) really great! Six little carbs lined up in a row! Of course, a Spit motor would only need four of the buggers.

I might think it's fun, but she wouldnt like it. She thinks the natural tones on the TR6 and Spit are already to loud! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

She's more of a visual kinda gal. She has different sized pink daisys on her Nissan Sentra right now, as an example! That's my expressive, hippie wife for ya!

Aldwyn,

Oh no! She's not gonna start the flower power movement all over again is she? That's bad karma for the paint and if my wife sees it I might be driving down the road with orange daisys stuck to my 3.

I had those things stuck all over the 65 Dart and I hated it. Of course it did do a fair job of covering the rust holes.

Harry: If she could bring back the late 60's, she would! /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/laugh.gif The flowers are actually magnets... so far no harm to the paint!

KC: "Honey, you can't just go around with that exaust system... here, let me make it safer for you by adding these stainless steel headers. You really need them or the car will break down, and you dont want that, do you?"

Awww! Thanks Phil! *blush* The wife blushed at that as well!

Of course, you'll have test driving privlidges on whatever we end up with! (the wife is STILL saying one of each as we speak, so... wow! What can I say?)

She was trying to get me to go back and get the Spit we drove in Towson last week, but it just needs to much work for the price.

Aldwyn, great advice. It already has the headers, but now just need the Monza pipes. I think it's "Honey, I don't really like the way that exhaust sounds." "I'm not sure it can be trusted." /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/smile.gif as if any LBC can be totaly trusted. Speaking of such. The hanging break relaxed and there was no drag but when going out for a drive today I started to smell break lining. About two miles from home. I got out and felt the hub. The lug nuts were pretty warm so I headed home and put it up on a jack. There is no real drag, only one slight tight spot. I guess I'll have the drum turned. The LBC's keep ya on your toes don't they.

I'm way ahead of you. I disconnected the fitting and drove a golf tee into it to keep it from leaking. Works great. Who would ever say a Spit is hard to work on.

Hey, Can't resist to throw my 2 cents in. We have a Miata( Wifes) and a 6(Mine). The Miata is a great car, smooth handles, farily quick, but the TR gets the thumbs up. You don't see them all over, the make great noise and they are smooth on the highway. A Spit would be great fun... as a GT-6 conversion. Put a GT-6 in it and then you have something. Value is another thing, you don't really restore/keep these to make money. You do them to enjoy the heck out of. I have 160,000 on my 6. I did a frame off 12 years ago. Not a show car by any means, but I'm proud of it. Perry
