TR4/4A Early TR4 - Crank Pulley Woodruff Key

My TR4 has one longish key which won't come out. I have put some PB Blaster on it, but it is still not moving. Anyone else had this?

My parts breakdown diagrams shows two short keys on the crankshaft at the front (I assume that's where we are talking about). Either way, I usually take them out with a sharp pair of diagonal cutting pliers (dikes...or is that dykes). Squeeze the pliers on the key while it's against the shaft and then lift up on the handles. Sometimes as they come up, you may have to re-grip the pliers on the key and lift again. That will usually get them out.

Try this but don't beat on it!
I believe the key you are trying to get out is half/moon shaped and you can tap down (use brass or lead punch only) on one edge on the top of the key to force the opposite end up. You can then grab it with a pair of plier dykes.

Oh , do try the dykes first I assumed you already tried that! Not good to tap on the crank shaft.

Your idea worked well and with a bit of rocking it back and forward, out it popped.

Now, maybe it's my English background and unfamiliar terminology, but I fail to see how using 2 lesbians would have got this out quicker /ubbthreads/images/graemlins/tongue.gif

What are "plier dykes"?

Most refer to the curved one sided cutting pliers as dykes.

Sorry, but it reminds me of story:

A guy once got really annoyed with me after I edited his written work. He said there wasn't a thing on earth I knew that he didn't know. I asked him what a woodruff key was. He wanted to hit me really bad . . .
 
I think I prefer the picture that my first impression created.
