Early 100-Six Locking Door Handle

Duane, My car is BN6-1237, just past the date you mentioned for the washer bottle and pump change. When I got it.... a basket case, almost 20 years ago, it had no driver's side door. Fortunately I have choice. I have both a later door but I also have an early 100-6 door with locking handle that came from a BN4. I'm trying to decide what to do here. If it's right for the car then I will definitely go with the locking door. I sure would like to know the number of the last car built with the locking door. Is there a 100-6 registry out there?

My belief is that your car would not have come with a locking door handle. As you probably know, your car was made between May and July of '58 and according to Clausager's book, the locking handles were discontinued in September of '57. I know Randy's car BN6L-942 did not come with them, and your car was built after his. Additionally, there is no mention of a locking door handle in the BN6 parts list (AKD 855), there are just plain non-locking handle parts numbers listed.

There are several 100-6 registries out there, the Healey Club USA has one, at one point Rudy Streng CAWS52803@aol.com was running another.

You also may want to enter your car number on the Healey data site below and look at other BN6's. The site has 144 BN6's from BN6/532 to BN6/4632. I looked at quite a few, not a single BN6 had a locking handle!

My BN4 was made in Feb 1958 VIN 56846 and has the original locking LH door handle.
FYI a BN4 door will not fit a BN6. The BN4 door will be 2" longer than the BN6 door.

Really? thats the first I have heard that. The 100's yes but all 6 cylinder cars should be the same.
 
Clausager's book is incorrect. The locking door handles continued into 1958 probably until the end of production of the 1st series of BN4 production in March of that year. The last one's in stock may have been used up on the early BN6's, production of which began in April 1958.

BN4 door is exactly the same as a BN6 door.
 
Well, that settles that! Its not the right part for my 100-6 build date. Anyone interested in buying a 100-6 driver's door for a locking door handle? And, I believe I still have the handle.

Clausager's book has other dates that are not correct, so it does not surprise me that the door handle dates are not correct either!

The six cylinder roadster doors (BN4, BN6, BN7, and BT7) were all the same except for the cutout for the locking handle doors.

NOTE Locking are the same ot the DB 2 Aston Martin I have used it as spares pieces for My door on 100/6 1957

On the early 100 6 (Longbridge)the driver door was with the lookng door - My car arrived from USA with the handle empty hole, closed with a plate piece- looking was impossible to find for AH -but fortunathely I find one Aston Martin DB 2 handle on e bay (incredibly they have the same handles)and wedding the two handles I obtain the right

BN6L/942, build date May 14-15, 1958 (my car since April 1st, 1978) didn't have a locking door handle, but DOES have the glass washer bottle, single washer jut & the small chromed push-button washer pump (I modified it into a momentary-contact switch).
