Dynamo numbers

<span style="font-size: 12pt"><span style="font-weight: bold"><span style="color: #006600">I'm trying to figure out what the amp output is on my TR3A generator. The numbers stamped on the case don't offer a clue (to me ) Any interpreters out there??</span></span></span>

The manual states 19 amps at 1950-2150 rpm, and 13.5 volts. Not much!?!

Thanks, John, Those are the numbers for a C-39 model (Early TR2) This one is a
C-40 model. (Hopefully a higher amp rating !!)

Aloha Frank,

I got a table awhile back from Randall and it shows the C40/1 output as a 20 Amps + or - 1 Amp with a 4.5 inch fan and 22 Amps + or - 1 Amp with a 5" fan. I could seem to add the whole table.

Here is another table:

DYNAMO

Make/type Lucas C40
Maximum output 22 amps
Cut-in speed 1450 rpm at 13.5 volts
Control box Lucas RB 106/2
Regulating voltage 12.7 - 13.3 volts

Sounds right, though I'm away from my references at the moment.

Don't forget though, that the control box is what really controls the current. The 22 amp control box is different than the 19.

I would somewhat be concerned with the numbers because the field coil cases can be interchanged, the same thing with the starters. The pre60K case will interchange with the Post 60k case at least that is what the Lucas manual suggested at one of my favorite local rebuild shops.

I'm pretty sure the 70 indicates the generator was built in 1970. The 50 preceding it may indicate that it was built in the 50th week of 1970 as well but it has been quite a while since I checked out my generators.
