Dusting off some old long awaited projects!

Ok I've dodged the issue long enough. But between a heavy workload, personal/family issues and the highly demanding darling from Stuttgart, I’ve neglected PAGAN long enough.

So this upcoming weekend – I’m eager to dive in & finish off some of the B’s projects that’ve been sitting on the shelf for the past year or so.

Yesterday I dropped off the O/D tranny I picked up on Ebay last year to have it checked out & serviced before. Tech recommended that I replace the front & rear seals and will make sure the solenoid works too (it did last I checked) and I’ve got a brand new HD clutch kit ready too. Anyway other than that everything looks good & but we won’t really know until we drop it in.

The other long awaited project is the Moss Motors EFI kit that I’ve had sitting on my shelf for the past year too. I did an inventory of everything last night and am chomping at the bit to dig into that. I’ve also got a Mallory Duel Point Dizzy & a PerTronix Ignitor electronics ignition upgrade too.

Oh well, over the next week or so I should have regular updates as I get up to my eyeballs in these long awaited upgrades.

EFI should make improve the drivability, responsiveness and see some marginal performance gains over the old ZS setup. It should also make visits to the Smog testing station much less painful. In fact with the EFI kit comes the buypassing of the EGR valve (CARB legal) so I might consider removing the restrictive manifold. All of that and the O/D transmission will make cruising at highway speeds much more enjoyable. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/thumbsup.gif

I for one am looking forward to hearing how this turns out. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smile.gif

I feel your pain at the "Test Only Station" /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/cry.gif

Sucks don't it!?!?

Anyway hopefully this won't be an issue anymore. But while going in for the emissions test can be annoying and a bit time consuming - I've never srunk away from it.

What bugs me to no end is the twits running the Test ONLY Stations. Normally they ain't mechanics and don't know their way around our cars.

Had one guy say to me - "We don't like testing exotics like that". I still crack up when I think of that one.

Another time I passed the tail pipe test but failed the visual because the dummy couldn't find the cat. If he'd of asked I could of pointed it out and I wouldn't of had a failed emissions test on my record. All they offered me when they found the mistake was a free retest!

Yet another time I failed because another dummy didn't check the timing correctly. Without reading the documentation - he just measured it at idle rather than at 1500rpms like the book says. Passed everything else but again - another failed test was entered into the database for my car. As before all they did was offer a free retest.

Oh well enough ranting - this is suposeto be a happy thread.

Gentlemen,

Ahhhhh, the Smog station...

This is why my toys are of a vintage before the 70's... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/smirk.gif

'Tis enough to worry about with my 'regular' cars... /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/driving.gif

Bret - I would suggest off loading the heavy duty clutch and getting a standard clutch. Unless you are going to race the car, the only thing a heavy duty clutch is good for is to destroy throw out bearings. I tThink I went through three throw out bearings, all in less than 10,000 miles until I woke up to the fact that the clutch pedal was much heavier than in other MGBs I had driven and that everybody else was not going through throw out bearings at the great rate that I was. I finally installed a standard clutch and have not had to replace the throw out bearing since then (over 50,000 miles miles ago).
Cheers,

Does no one make a roller bearing TO for the MGB?

I wanna see photos of that EFI installation!

Hey All of You Californians;

Don`t You folks have an "Antique Plate" & Registration that You could put on Your Cars to avoid all that Stupid Inspection Stuff?

Ex: Here in PA; If your car is 25yrs or older; You can apply for a "Antique Plate" and "NEVER, EVER" have to worry about Inspections:

I noticed on your car that you have a "Personal Plate": The Cost in PA for "Personal vs Antique" is the same: Whats in CA?

Just Curious; Russ /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/banana.gif

There used to be a 30 year rolling exemption but it was stopped at 1975 model year. Even with the exemption if the chp feels like it they can and do look under the hood. Not a huge issue unless they think you are racing or are beeing a royal butthead.

there are antique plates here too. However, those plates are limited in miles allowed to be driven, and 1976 and newer cars are still required to be smog tested.
