Door seal color.

Hi John, Stock door seals {Furflex} were black but you can use blue if that be your preference.--Fwiw--Keoke
 
Hi John,

I've seen them in blue on blue interior cars, and they look good but noticeable. If you want the door seals to stand out, they blue is the way to go. If you want them to blend into the car so that the interior is what you look at, then go with the black. I went black, as the furflex wasn't the thing I wanted people to remember about my car.

Is your BJ8 a phase I car? If so, I am looking for a picture of the magnetic latch on the cubby box. I like your thinking about what stands out so I think I will go with the black. Thanks and have a good day!

From page 171 of the Gary Anderson and Roger Moment Authentic Restoration Guide:

Door Opening Seals
Door seals on the convertibles, as with previous models, consisted of a continuous-bulb rubber seal with an attached tail that pressed against the door when closed, secured over the steel lip of the door opening by continuous spring-steel clips covered with Furflex in a color matching the primary interior color.

I went with blue. I did not use "Furflex". I used a brand from one of our vendors here. "Bristleflex" The blue color was so close to the blue carpet, it blends in nicely. Plus it installs so easy. Just push on and it stays. No rivits nor glue needed at all.

Well Roger, so much for that page in the book. However, I do know that the "continuos bulb" did not have an attached tail!--Keoke

Hi John, The factory parts manual shows that latch clearly on page BN8. It looks very much like a current magnetic cabinet latch and I imagine you could make a replacement if it is not available using the core from one of the current ones.--Fwiw---Keoke

I did see that illustration and I agree it should not be to difficult to make. I was hoping for a picture to get the relative size of the latch. Thanks and have a good day!

Keoke, The original door seals had a tail coming off the continuous bulb to give a better seal against the door panel. The attached image shows it on some correct door seals under development (the tail is the part at the bottom that looks like the tail on the letter Q). I'm a bit shocked that you didn't know this! /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif
