I'm putting the lock on the cubby door on my brand new refinished dash and because I didn't shave all the veneer around the hole well enough I break the veneer into little pieces above the lock. Can someone show me a close up of the lock on the door and explain if it is recessed ,flush or on top of the door. If it is on top I am hosed, the lock isn't long enough to work that way.

DNK, recessed, all that is prone is the pull and button. Hope you have enough to glue it back together.

How does it stay in and not pull through?

I just got a used dash that I was going to refinish over the winter. Will pictures of that help, along with me current glove box?

Here is a couple of shots of the dash. I tried to refurbish this one, gave up and bought one from TRF.

Here's my current and the replacement without the lock.

Paul, A ha! My hole doesn't have the shoulder for it to sit on

Like Rosanne Rosanna Dana used to say, "Ya know Jane, it's always something!"

It looks like the hole was cut through in the front veneer and the plywood, but the back layer of veneer may be what's holding it in? Is that possible? Seems like it should be more than that, but who knows?

I'm back in the office and can't check my experimental dash to verify.

When I reveneered my dash this cut out was the trickest to do of all. Without it the lock will not go all the way in. I used a roto zip with a drywall cutter that looks alot like a 1/8 inch. drill bit. A roto zip is like a dremel but uses slightly larger shafted bits.

DNK, you have the small clip that fits on the back with one screaw, I hope? See picture the middle picture that Paul sent. That holds it in place.

I took R-man's idea and stuck a zip bit in my Dremel tool and created a shoulder. Now it's flush but the latch do hickey on the lock still does not protrude out of the wood. Can someone mic. their door for me? Mine is 0.506".

DNK, sounds like you have the short latch that went on a steel door. Did it fit OK before or is the your first fitting on this dash. I'll be back in a minute or two, I'm going out in the heat to check one I fulled out this morning.

I think it fit ok before. 1 caveat, I did not use a paper backed veneer, but a solid wood one.It was a little thicker but I didn't think that much.
It's hot here too,74 degrees and sunny

I can do my test unit when I get home.

Still at work, paying for this silly hobby.

I thought the hobby was your work?

Paul, I noticed on your photo it looks recessed a little. That correct?

I got your hot thank you very much. My son lives in Puyallup and says it's perfect working on TR weather.
The dash was 15/32 a bit smaller and the over all catch was 1 and 7/32 the best I can tell. I worked on a TR4 a while back and I'm sure he picked up my calipers.
Oh yeah, once you can get the catch in, the little spring up catch will go back alot more, you may need to recess it just a tad to get the catch in enough for it to spring.

If your ever out to visit give me a holler!

Will do, in fact the other half says if I buy one more TR6 I will need a room. Any old TR seat will do fine, I get my best sleep there. Let me know how it works out on the catch.
My son has a '80 Spit he's putting together for his 16 year old, runs in the family, I gave him a GT6 for his 16th.
