DMV tomorrow [Update]

Well, my TR4 has been off the road since 1987. Tomorrow with my one day DMV pass, I will be driving my TR4 to the DMV to be verified and to have it officialy titled and registered. The drive is about 15 miles on back streets. I'm a little nervous as AAA sent me a notice that my free towing had been used up for the year and my car has never really been road tested. All seems fine, just wish me luck!

Re: DMV tomorrow

15 miles, piece of cake. ( Unless your Tinster ). I suggest a cell phone and a Visa to cover your bases.

Re: DMV tomorrow

Best of luck Larry, here's to much longer trips after you pass. Why not take a scenic way home?

A Visa?? Roof, he's not leaving the country, he's just going across town to the DMV not the DMZ.

Ohhh, sorry. THAT kind of Visa......

Re: DMV tomorrow

Good luck, Larry. 15 miles isn't that hard to push in a pinch, anyways. /bcforum/images/%%GRAEMLIN_URL%%/grin.gif

Re: DMV tomorrow

Used you Towing up for the year...... never heard that. I have my TR8, and both of my girlfrineds kids have "well used" cars. The local tow truck driver knows us by name and address.

Re: DMV tomorrow

You have TWO girlfriends?

Re: DMV tomorrow

Yeah, how about that??

Two girlfriends AND a TR8!!

Ahhh, to be young again.

Re: DMV tomorrow

I have never heard of that either. Makes me scared to ever drive either Triumph

Re: DMV tomorrow

Good luck, Larry! Why not use AAA for the registration/titling, instead of the dreaded DMV? I used AAA for my TR6 that had been off the road for 16+ years, and no problems....
Enjoy the drive home!

Re: DMV tomorrow

If you are a AAA member, they offer registration services. Take your paperwork to them, pay your fees to them, and they get it done with the DMV.

At least in theory ... my experience is that they are just as bad as the DMV for always needing one more form that I didn't bring, and the wait times are actually longer than the DMV. All AAA really has going for it is more comfortable chairs, IMO.

Re: DMV tomorrow

My little DMV never has anyone in it if you go mid month.

Re: DMV tomorrow

Well Larry, How did it go, we're all wanting to hear.

Re: DMV tomorrow

How did to go for you Larry??

No break downs, I hope.

I didn't want to put a Crypt car jinx on ya
yesterday by wishing ya good luck in advance.

I think the Crypt Car has managed 15 miles without
breaking down......... a few times now.

Re: DMV tomorrow

Round trip to the DMV is about 25 miles. The car ran great on the way there. Coming back at about three miles from my home the car all of the sudden began running rough losing power. I pulled over and it stalled. Started right up and I drove it all the way to my home where I have a hill before my driveway. Same thing it broke up and lost power. I coasted to the bottom of the hill and the car started right up and drove up the hill. All of this sounds innocent enought except that my oil pressure was reading very low, even a higher rpms? I noticed this after the first break down.

Re: DMV tomorrow

Here's what I'm thinking...

I was thinking I was running the wrong coil... but I'm running a Mallory Chrome Coil No. 29216 with a Mallory heavy duty resistor and a Mallory Unlite distributor. I guess my coil could be bad, but it's all new.

My oil pressure is reading lower than my TR6 does when warm, but I've heard from Moss and a mechanic that it's in the normal range.

I guess I'll try changing the fuel filter.

Good news is that the car is titled and registered and ran/drove great. Very solid!

Re: DMV tomorrow

Any chance you have bad gas? Moisture in it or lower than needed octane? Just curious. An octane additive solved my brother in law's issues.
