Distributor and coil BMW in my Austin Healey BJ8

In Spain we have a saying: "when the devil is bored kills flies with the tail".
Today I had free time I devoted me to investigate and I have discovered things that I don't like as that the coil and distributor of my car are really BMW pieces, which not to know it.

abierto.jpgcables.jpgcenital pequeña.jpgencendido BMW lateral.jpg

The printed reference over the ignition Lead Set is BERU ZE 723 -1 BMW 1 705 634 9
The reference number into the distribuitor is 1230500140.

I've been looking for for a few hours but I can't figure out what model of BMW to belong, to try to at least know if the ignition order is the same, I hope so.
Do you know you any adaptation based on BMW distributor?

When you place a new order I clear my shopping cart will have a Distributor, are worth 123 distributors, and the COIL-ignition-FLAME THROWER?

Thank you for reading and try to help me

Un saludo.

Thanks EV2239.
It is true that it is not an original ignition, as it is not the distributor 123 but my question is that I don't know who made that modification was a great mechanic that this adaptation occurred or if on the contrary placed lighting of any car BMW six cylinder without worrying anything more because the car started, and moved.
The engine does not sound bad but I would stay calmer if I knew which car belonged and if the ignition order and the advance that is supplying is correct.

It doesn't matter what the firing order is as long as the correct plug leads are connected to the correct cylinder, so this is not a worry. Beru coils are some of the best and just as good as a flame thrower, so why change it.

Finally and IMO, a fancy 123 distributor is a waste of money. All a distributor has to do is allow a static advance of 5-12 degrees depending on which cam you have have and then between 2-3000, advance the ignition to give about 36 degrees, so quite a simple operation and not one that requires an expensive solution.

It gets more complicated if you use a fast road or sports cam because then often you need more static advance, sometimes 15-20 degrees, but still only 36/38 after 3000. It's easy to do this by restricting the amount that the bob weights can fly out and this is what most do.

If you don't like the BMW part, why not find a Lucas one, have it rebuilt and fit that, but please don't get the idea that a 123 and Flamethrower will make a noticeable different, because it won't if the existing one is set correctly.

I hope this helps.

EV2239, HaleyRick thank you greatly for the time you have devoted to try to help me.
I have actually returned to remove the distributor and I found a different number on the distributor body.
The cover is BERU 0310920035 BMW 1361791
and the distributor body 0237302029 PGFUD6, i discovered that are originally mounted in a BMW series 5 E-28 518-M535i
If anybody want a cheap distributor....

Your words on the progress I soothed, I will immediately abandon the idea of 123 distributors and the flamethrower. My wallet will thank me and the originality of my car also.

Un saludo.

just for add more info around original distributor. here the photo of the original connections
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/dAH8G2FqTah4nhRivxfhNdMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
I have also TEN (10) original distributors unfortunately they are DM6A for 100/6 cars - (I have find this LOT in Australia, some time ago)
BUT in my car i have placed the 123 distributor and LUCAS sport coil-(Black painted)
https://picasaweb.google.com/lh/photo/RvSLhahLAsVdg3VBEh4GgtMTjNZETYmyPJy0liipFm0?feat=directlink
economically it was the best choice, compared to a professional rebuilding costs of the oldest, and intrinsic advantages of solid state technology and CNM modern materials and mechanic, I consider it a stronger advantage for my car (equipped with Fast Road cam) and first 3000 Miles confirm my impression
I Agree with EV2239 no change- if you are satisfied by you car performances
Cheers

Thanks Andrea,
I had seen yuor photo in an old post and last night went over all your picasa photo albums, thanks to you I know that the BMW distruibuitors furnishing originally turn to right and ours cars turn to left.

The truth is that I do not believe to be satisfied with the performance of the car, I know when started I will become a hypochondriac I think that the best solution is replace this BMW coil and distribuitor for an rebuilt one and end my agony.

For example, I am concerned about how vacuum tubes are connected maybe is delaying instead of advancing the ignition time.

Now to reach the distribuitor two lines of vacuum, one coming from the carburetor and other from de "intake nozzle".
