Difference between 16acr and 18acr alternator

Dear all

It's getting cold and so is my little car. Trouble is she doesn't like it when it's dark and her lights heater and windscreen wipers are all on at the same time.

So it's time to sort out my flailing alternator. She's a late 71 Sprite but I don't think she has her original alternator. I'm looking at a replacement and have found a good deal on an 18acr which seems as though it would give a better output.

Can anyone tell me if it should just drop on as a direct replacement for a 16 or 17acr depending on what I already have?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated..

Cheers mateys! xxx

Take a look here. This seems to imply that all these alternators were used on A-series engines at one time or another, so it seems that they should fit. The 18ACR is a bit higher in current, which is worthwhile.

Another option is to go all the way and put in a 55 amp Fiesta alternator; see the Wiki. This will give plenty of power, and isn't expensive.
